NetGirls? ?? Girls who play, lead NetGirls Zambia is an initiative that gives girls the opportunity to build confidence, leadership skills, and teamwork through netball. ?? In many communities, girls are expected to take on household chores instead of participating in sports. But sports can be life-changing! Through 100+ teams, girls develop resilience, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging—all while having fun and staying active. PEAS (Promoting Equality in African Schools) also run extracurricular clubs, including sports, to provide girls with opportunities beyond the classroom. Participation in activities like netball fosters teamwork, builds confidence, and helps challenge gender norms that limit girls’ potential. When girls play, they learn to break gender stereotypes, build lifelong skills, and dream bigger. ?? Let’s celebrate girls who play and lead! ?? #NetGirls #SportsForChange #ImpactGirls

Pad-Making Workshops ?? Menstrual health should never be a barrier to education! In many rural areas, girls miss up to 5 days of school each month due to a lack of access to sanitary products. Our pad-making workshops teach girls how to make reusable, hygienic menstrual pads—ensuring they can attend school with confidence and dignity. ???? By combining this with private latrines, hygiene education, and community awareness, we’re breaking the stigma and helping girls stay in school. PEAS (Promoting Equality in African Schools) also works to ensure girls have access to safe, well-equipped school environments, including separate girls’ washrooms with proper sanitation and incinerators for menstrual waste disposal. Together, we’re making sure no girl has to choose between her education and her health . Let’s continue breaking down barriers together! ???? #PeriodPositivity #GirlsInSchool #ImpactGirls

The Importance of Keeping Girls in School ?? International Women’s Day is March 8th! This week we’re highlighting the incredible work being done to support girls’ education. ??? Keeping school-age girls in school is one of the most powerful ways to drive long-term change in communities. Yet, many girls face barriers such as limited menstrual health resources, early marriage, and a lack of access to quality education. At Impact Network, we’re committed to breaking these barriers through initiatives that provide essential resources and support for girls. We’re proud to partner with PEAS (Promoting Equality in African Schools) to address the challenges faced by adolescent girls in rural Zambia. PEAS’ schools ensure that girls have access to safe learning environments, strong female role models, and programs that support their retention and success in secondary education. Through education, girls gain confidence, independence, and opportunities for a brighter future. ???? Follow along as we showcase how we’re making an impact! ?? #ImpactGirls #GirlsEducation #EmpowerHer

A recent assessment by Let’s Read shows that 58% of third grade students performed at minimum or below minimum levels of proficiency in literacy. Our Read Smart Cinyanja program is designed to get students reading on-grade level by third grade. And it’s working – after two years in the program, just 3% of students are below minimum literacy standards, compared to 31% for the rest of the country!

Across our portfolio, teams are experimenting with specific bits like materials, teacher training, and ongoing support to refine their programmes. We’re capturing the tweaks and sharing what works and how. In their first learning loop, Impact Network(PEAS) is hoping to learn from, not just one, but two important tweaks. Their Read Smart program is an explicit phonics initiative designed to teach sound-spelling relationships systematically, particularly benefiting students in rural settings with limited exposure to print. As Impact Network(PEAS) scales Read Smart into new government schools, they're investigating how to adapt the program for successful implementation in these contexts. This involves exploring various training and coaching methodologies to identify the most effective strategies for promoting teacher uptake and buy-in. We spoke with Promise Makala, Head of Academics at Impact Network(PEAS), as he shares the details behind the tweaks the team have made to materials and on-going teacher support: Adding a visual checklist of core ReadSmart habits to the materials box and increasing deliberate practice during coaching conversations. Stay tuned for more conversations as we continue to explore the critical components of implementation research.? #uBoraBora #BetterBetter #FoundationalLearning #ContinuousImprovement #SubSaharanAfrica

?? Educational Inequities – Access Isn’t Enough Zambia has made huge strides in education—enrollment rates are high, and the government has removed school fees, ensuring every child has access to learning. However, where you live still determines the quality of education you receive. In rural areas, challenges like limited resources, absent teachers, and overcrowded classrooms persist. The result? Learning outcomes in Zambia remain among the lowest in sub-Saharan Africa. This is why Impact Network and PEAS (Promoting Equality in African Schools) are focused on more than just access—we prioritize quality. Through teacher training, school leadership support, and government partnerships, we’re ensuring all students get the education they deserve. ?? See the difference: dedicated teachers in our schools, ensuring each child understands the lesson. #EducationMatters #EdEquity #Zambia #EducationForAll

Just returned from an inspiring trip to Zambia, where I witnessed the impact of Impact Network and PEAS firsthand! From vibrant classrooms to passionate teachers, I saw how quality education transforms lives. Here are five key lessons from my journey: ?? 1. Access Isn’t Enough—Quality Matters Zambia has high enrollment rates, but rural schools face overcrowding and limited resources. That’s why we invest in teacher training and leadership development—so students don’t just attend school, they thrive in it. ?? 2. Interventions That Work Interactive lessons, tech-powered learning, and songs filled the classrooms with joy and curiosity. Hands-on approaches make learning memorable and engaging. ?? 3. Supporting the Whole Child Education goes beyond academics. Programs like Girls’ Clubs, poetry slams, and science experiments build confidence, creativity, and leadership skills. ?????? 4. The Power of Great Teachers Through PEAS’ Top Ten Teacher Practices, educators use positive reinforcement and engaging transitions to create inclusive, dynamic classrooms. One highlight: watching students and teachers dance between lessons—blending joy and learning. ?? 5. Building Bold, Curious Students During a student Q&A, their thoughtful questions—like “What do other parts of the world know about Zambia?”—showed how quality education nurtures curiosity, leadership, and global citizenship. This trip was a powerful reminder: Access opens doors, but quality education changes lives. Grateful to our partners and supporters for making this work possible! https://lnkd.in/eUrDVpZm #EducationForAll #ImpactInAction #GlobalLearning #Zambia #ImpactNetwork #PEAS
