While this article is titled “The Shift to Smart Injection Molding” what the article does not explore is the upskilling or retraining of existing employees.?It does mention that “… shifts can be disruptive, as?nearly three in four workers?lack the digital skills necessary in a tech-driven environment.”?However, the only suggestion in this article as it relates to employee retention is to “… communicate these changes with your employees and offer training programs to address any newfound skills gaps”.?While yes incorporating AI and IoT into the injection mold process will help optimize performance and make accuracy repeatable, what about the employees? As more companies require employees to adapt quickly and make bigger and bigger impacts in shorter amounts of time what does that mean for employees??We have talked about upskilling and retraining of employees in past posts.?What we have not touched on are the employees that move jobs frequently.?Can/does frequent jobs changes allow someone to gain more experience than someone that stays at the same company for 20 years??Each industry perceives job changes differently. Are you still using scanning-based cycle-counting processes??Will you be in 2027??According to a Gartner survey of 506 supply chain stakeholders (those involved in operations and management) 50% will be leveraging AI-enabled vision systems.?That same survey group said that 20% of them are already using AI-enabled vision systems.?So, if 70% of the respondent pool will no longer be using scanning based cycle-counting processes where does that leave that 30%??Are you part of that 30%? As technology advances and the cost of that technology goes down more and more companies will be investing in newer technology.?With the implementation of the newer technology a focus needs to be on your company’s existing employees.?At the end of this article Gartner makes three recommendations for stakeholders that are considering making the change to a new AI-enables system.?However, nowhere on that list is the reskilling, retraining and assessment of existing employees.
