So often, we think about our veterans coming home. What we don't think about is when we send them off to war. This picture is of my wife, Cindy - the mom of a veteran - and Andrew McGlennen right before sending him off to Afghanistan. She was trying to be brave but her heart was breaking. This is the "not-so-happy" part of being a veteran. These are the moments we don't often think about that I'd like to remind us about today: ???? Going off to long deployments away from their families. ???? Eating MREs for Thanksgiving dinner ???? Talking to your family on a video call after a long, hard patrol on Christmas Day. ???? Missing your birthday and other key events while you're away. We owe them a lot and it's not lost on me how much the families are part of the support of our veterans. Thank you Andrew for your service and thank you Mama McVicious for being brave and praying so hard (and swearing too!) while he was away. I'm proud and grateful for this veteran and all of our veterans who had a moment like this with their mamas. #veteransday

I just finished coaching a business owner who is beginning the process of envisioning what life "post-business" looks like for her. One of the things I've noticed is that it's really difficult for business owners to step back and see their purpose from a different perspective. Often, they're too engrained in their current habits and rhythms to consider that there could be any other way. I like to interrupt that pattern and thought process. It can be disruptive and even a bit disturbing. But with the right question, it can help that business owner look at the purpose for their life a bit differently. It's like stepping outside of the frame so you can see the entire picture.
