The Mizuho Impact Forum, held on October 10, 2024 as part of the Japan Weeks hosted by the Japanese Financial Services Agency, was themed “Impact and Corporate Value,” focusing on how businesses can engage with increasingly impact-oriented financial markets. Featuring keynote speeches and panel discussions by industry leaders, investors, policymakers, and international experts, the forum delved into impact strategies for businesses and financial institutions. Impact Frontiers Director Nao Sudo (Iwamoto) joined a panel on “Impact and Corporate Value” with leaders from publicly traded corporations engaged in impact and non-financial information disclosure, financial authorities, and life insurance companies moderated by Minako Takaba of Asset Management One. Nao contributed to the discussion by providing the foundational concepts of IMM and introducing different methods for quantifying impact. She also highlighted the importance of impact risk-return viewed through the lens of the end-beneficiary, integrating both business and impact perspectives. The forum concluded with a networking reception, fostering further discussions and connections among participants, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts to advance impact strategies in Japan’s financial markets. Congratulations to the Mizuho FG Sustainable Business team for hosting a great event! In 2024, Impact Frontiers is developing guidance on emerging impact management practices for investors pursuing positive social equity outcomes. This initiative seeks to fill a critical gap: while more investors are adopting strategies to promote social equity, knowledge about how to measure, manage, and report on the impact of these efforts has not kept pace. Acknowledging the multidisciplinary nature of impact management for social equity, we began with an in-depth literature review and collaborated with the expert partners listed below to integrate best practices from both investing and related fields: ? Erika Seth Davies: Chief Executive Officer at Rhia Ventures and Founder of The Racial Equity Asset Lab (The REAL)? ? Tynesia Boyea-Robinson: Founder, President and CEO, CapEQ ? Catherine Clark: Faculty Director at CASE at Duke and Founding Director of the CASE i3 Initiative on Impact Investing, along with team member Carrie Gonnella ? Rebecca Fries: CEO and Co-founder of Value For Women Ltd., along with team member Asya Troychansky ? Heather Krause, PStat: Founder of We All Count The resulting discussion document guidance — "Guidance on Advancing Social Equity Through Impact Management" — is organized according to four steps on impact management and focuses on areas of impact management where social equity objectives may require additional considerations or distinct approaches. The discussion document is available here: https://lnkd.in/es5sgBHy We are inviting feedback on the discussion document via public consultation through December 2, 2024.
