Last week Cindy Willard recently attended, Gary Community Ventures' #ASSEMBLE100 . These two days brought together 100 leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, and practitioners who all came together to advance an ownership-lens investing movement, grounded in the belief that wealth and financial security must be available to all Americans. She supported a panel that focused on the Dearfield Fund for Black Wealth, where IC has moved $6M in philanthropic capital to help first time homebuyers access down payment support. When you get to participate with amazing people like Aisha T. Weeks, MPA, Charlyn Moss, Efrata Kirose and the photobombing Algernon Felice Jr, work is a JOY! Key takeaways from the event: We can all think about the ownership-lens economy more broadly - from individual assets to generational wealth to community ownership. Economic rights are directly connected to civil rights. We cannot separate racial and economic injustice. As noted by Phillip Reeves of Apis & Heritage Capital Partners - We don’t have to wonder if employee ownership and home ownership work as wealth building strategies. There are so many inspiring and successful examples already in action. Our work is to build the ecosystem for expansion and increasing access. As Tracy Hadden Loh, reminds us, don’t forget the “real” in real estate. Not only does real estate (both homes and commercial real estate) create an asset to own and one that can appreciate, it can also create a real sense of stability and belonging. All innovation comes from challenge. At Impact Charitable, we remain committed to filling capital gaps - including the wealth disparity that exists today.
