The purpose of these two days was to conduct a strategic planning workshop as part of the Society’s creation of their first ever strategic plan! Last year, Amielle DeWan, Ellie Milano, and Fátima Ramis from Impact by Design stopped by Wildlife Conservation Network’s Fall Expo event in San Francisco to check in with friends and so many of our wonderful partners around the world that participate in WCN’s network of conservationists. We got to say hello to our friends at Oakland Zoo, Planet Indonesia, Snow Leopard Conservancy, Emerging Wildlife Conservation Leaders, and so many more! We caught inspiring talks by MarAlliance’s Dr. Rachel Graham, and Fundación Proyecto Tití’s Rosamira Guillen. IbD then spent a day working closely with the WCN team to learn their experiences and insights to gear up for strategy work with this amazing organization. We left feeling all around awe-struck and inspired by all of the incredible conservation work happening around the globe. After Expo, we headed out to the breathtaking #Yosemite National Park for a day to see the sights and reconnect with nature. What a powerful few days to remind us why we do what we do to protect this planet! 🌲 🌏 🦬

We are thrilled to announce Ellie Milano’s recent promotion to Principal, Planning & Facilitation at Impact by Design! Ellie joined IbD eight years ago as our very first employee. Since then, she has played a pivotal role in helping nonprofits working in wildlife and environmental conservation, as well as animal welfare organizations and shelters, to do their best work for animals and the planet. Through her expertise in strategic planning, facilitation, and designing impactful workshops, Ellie has supported organizations worldwide in strengthening their efforts and maximizing their impact. A recent participant at one of her workshops described it as “hands down the best workshop experience” of their life. The Global Mangrove Alliance is a rich network of institutions dedicated to conserving and restoring valuable mangrove ecosystems for the benefit of communities, biodiversity, and climate. Impact by Design is honored to provide Program Management and 'backbone' support for this truly world-spanning initiative. 🌟 Welcome to the Team! 🌟 We are so excited to welcome Sophie Nazeri to the IbD team! Sophie joins IbD as Manager of Planning & Facilitation. She is dedicated to fostering collaborative spaces that inspire sustainable, long-term solutions, and works closely with organizations to thoughtfully choose the tools and strategies that best support the advancement and implementation of their initiatives. Her experience includes wildlife conservation, animal welfare, environmental policy, and education, with a background working on parrot conservation and advocating for wildlife policies at global forums and multilateral meetings. Sophie has worked with organizations and groups in Central America, Europe, Africa, South and East Asia, Canada, and the United States. She holds a Master of Science in Environmental Policy and Management from the University of California, Davis, and a Bachelor of Science with Distinction in Animal Science from Cornell University. We are thrilled that Sophie has joined IbD to help mission-driven teams and organizations achieve their greatest impact! 🌎✨

🌍 ✈️ In September, Impact by Design spent a week in Hyderabad, India with Humane Society International and The Humane Society of the United States' Global Disaster Team at the Humane Society International India Office - a little oasis of nature and birds in the middle of Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills 🌿   The Global Disaster team came from all over the world, including Vietnam, Australia, Mexico, South Africa, the United States, and of course India, for a 3-day workshop and 1-day facilitation training with IbD's Ellie Milano.   The final day culminated with a deep dive training in facilitation theory and skills application, learning to create engaging meetings, workshops, and trainings. We were able to use the first 3 days as ‘pre-training’, having participants observe and reflect as they were experiencing facilitation approaches, techniques, and skills in the workshop.   We practiced key facilitation techniques like Think, Pair, Share; Round Robins; World Café; and other useful tools for productive group work.   On the final day, when asked, “What will you do differently as a result of this training?” one participant simply responded, “Everything!” #FacilitationTraining #WorkshopSkills #Collaboration
