    2 letters explain it all: #AI Hello from Day 1 of #ces2024 in Las Vegas! Joined The Female Quotient, led by Shelley Zalis, perennial expert guide Uyoung Suggs, friends Chandos Quill, Sable M. and others today for a tour of the the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC). At LVCC, where hardware traditionally captures the spotlight and top press, all eyes were on advances in software engineering that will drive future tech in ‘24. Sure, TV monitors, appliances and autos are still on the floor, but they are now more alive with better processors, quality graphics and a wider set of use cases. Netflix hosted its first exhibit in LVCC - an immersive entertainment launch - probably the best example of how all 3 sides of the broader CES show (software, media and hardware) are becoming inextricably merged. Hardware is now just a vessel for smarter software providing more productivity and interactive entertainment. A few highlights from today: ???SCREENS LG Electronics' exhibit traditionally occupies the best real estate in LVCC's North Hall. Previous LG showcases have been breathtaking, high-def visuals on a wave wall of screens. This year they impressed again, with an OLED-T (T for transparent!) wireless screen: great graphics and quality when 'on' and a super sleek, clean look when 'off.' ???IMMERSIVE & AUGMENTED The #metaverse continues to offer next-gen online engagement opportunities, now with more device portals like Razer Inc.'s Blade 16" gaming laptop with 240Hz OLED display (in partnership w/ Samsung Electronics). Other accessories in the North Hall include bHaptics??CES2024 sensory glove (for a mere $300) and a 'Tactsuit' - both adding 'feel' to the sensory experience. ???AUTO SOFTWARE In the West Hall, "software-defined vehicles" make a case of value to consumers through software feature upgrades vs new model (hardware) purchases. Leaders in the autonomous vehicle pack remain Amazon, leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS) to handle everything from in-car OS to delivery logistics and, in agricultural robotics, Johndeere Equipment Private Limited. with HD HYUNDAI ROBOTICS close on their heels with the Cab-less (Bull)Dozer Other impressions: ?? a focus on volumetric capture of people data and digital twining for applications ranging from residential energy usage to healthcare management. ?? the absence (again) of Apple and a separate-from-CES (again) Feb 2 launch date for its #visionpro headset was news here, as was the ubiquity and (processing) power of NVIDIA. ?? to meet the increasing dependency for energy to power all things connected, companies like Jackery are exhibiting solar generator capabilities. There's little doubt by CES2025, more solutions will rise to meet this need as well. Day 2 tomorrow!

    Big news from Google on the launch of their #MMM offer, Meridian. Since MMM requires marketers to share LOTS of 1st party and sales data as well as all marketing-channel specific results - Google being one of the media channel investments - I wonder if this introduces at least a perception of bias. What do you think? Will #marketers feel comfortable sharing this high level of customer and marketing investment data? #measurement #marketing #advertising

    It's a wrap on IAB ALM! From potential for #AI efficiencies in the media supply chain to continued discussion of measurement, the program and networking were relevant, as always. Some key takeaways: ??AI ??No one is an AI expert and there's no monopoly on AI use cases... yet. So jump in and learn. ??News of DEEPSEEK's cost effective small models that replicate #LLM processing illustrates how dynamic, fast moving - and revolutionary - this tech is. ??Data matters. It can create bias or a USP. Currently, most LLMs reference the same commoditized data from the open internet. However, there is huge opportunity to up the game with differentiated data. ???? Media & Measurement ??#CTV and #Audio will see the biggest gains this year, with continued focus on commerce media ??     DeepSeek: A CCP-Controlled LLM—Watch It Censor Its Own Results Live There’s a lot of noise—and justifiably so—about the launch of?DeepSeek, an LLM that promises faster generation speeds, comparable power at a lower cost, and an open-source approach. Intrigued by its claims, I decided to test it out to see how an AI developed in China might handle results. The findings were nothing short of astonishing. I ran two types of searches: a direct query and another where I asked it to retrieve results from the web. Initially, the answers were detailed and impressively accurate. But then, midway through, the model abruptly stopped, stating it could no longer proceed with the response. This raised a critical question: how can we trust an AI that so blatantly censors itself? While the LLM space continues to excite us with innovation and potential,?DeepSeek’s example raises serious concerns—especially for businesses considering embedding such models. How do you ensure reliability and integrity when the results are clearly manipulated?     I’m hiring. This is a senior role, responsible for performance solutions in our mobile domain (people converting in a mobile app) and our TV domain (people converting in a TV app). (See the commonality?) The right person will have experience launching products. Yes, product management experience, writing requirements, building a case. But also leadership skills—mobilizing an organization and a market to do new things, based on their knowledge of what the market needs. They should also have deep experience in the world of digital performance. Conversion, optimization. The person will have the pleasure of joining our band of committed miscreants in New Products & Solutions, and of working for me : ). What am I like as a manager? I got a nice compliment recently from someone on my team: they said I make my team “feel like co-conspirators in search of the greater good.” That sounds okay!
