Fungal Education Fridays: spotlight on Rapid, Reliable, and Early Detection of Candida Infections ??A March 2025 study published in Microorganisms by Laura Trovato, Maddalena Calvo, Concetta Ilenia Palermo, Maria Rita Valenti, and Guido Scalia highlights the power of PCR testing for diagnosing invasive candidiasis in ICU patients. Key findings include: ? 83.3% sensitivity & 94.3% specificity for PCR detection ? 87.5% positive predictive value & 91.7% negative predictive value ? Faster results than traditional culture methods ? Improved accuracy when combined with BDG testing Despite its non-inclusion in official diagnostic algorithms, the study concludes that Candida PCR assays are valuable diagnostic tools when used alongside serological markers and culture-based assays. The high sensitivity of molecular methods, combined with their strong negative predictive value, makes them essential for ruling out invasive candidiasis in high-risk patients. IMMY is proud to offer the CandID PCR assay, which provides results in 45 minutes and detects the six main causative species associated with IC. Inquire for availability in your region! ?? ?? Redefining AFB Processing with MycoDDR MycoDDR ensures a controlled, reliable digestion and decontamination process, leading to faster culture results, improved smear quality, and reduced lab variability. But don’t just take our word for it—hear from Joselito C. Laguesma, Supervisor of Transfusion Services & Microbiology at Medical Center Health System in Odessa: "Overall our experience with the MycoDDR Reagents has been very positive. Strengths include: ease of use, reduced contamination, fewer false positives... Since implementing MycoDDR, we've seen less contamination and an increase in positive MGIT results, which is not due to contamination." It’s time to redefine AFB processing. It all starts with MycoDDR. #MycoDDR #AFBProcessing #IMMYInnovation
