We are a community of lawyers and a training & policy institute, fighting together for New York’s immigrant communities.

关于我们

We are a community of legal representatives and a New York based immigration law training and policy institute, working together to fight for New York’s immigrant communities. On January 28, 2017, hundreds of lawyers descended on JFK Airport to help those caught in the Muslim Travel Ban. Three weeks later, we met in a law firm conference room, scared by the recent and upcoming developments, but energized by what we had accomplished by working together. Out of that meeting, the Immigrant Advocates Response Collaborative, or I-ARC, was born. Our mission is clear: to mobilize New York’s legal representatives to better serve our communities, to organize our resources and strategies because we are stronger when we work together, and to resist anti-immigrant policies by shining a light on injustices and confronting inequalities faced by our communities in the legal system. Through I-ARC, New York’s immigration bar has fostered and supported stronger connections between legal representatives, facilitating the exchange of ideas, legal theories, and materials that ease the burden put on attorneys by the constant shifts and continued intensification of immigration law and policy. At the same time, we have documented and elevated the breakdown of the immigration legal system to law makers and policy leaders, joining our voice to many efforts and effectuating systems change. Begun as a volunteer-led effort among our various organizational members, in 2020 I-ARC became its own non-profit. As we look to the future, we will continue to use our legal skills to hold the government accountable to our immigrant communities and their allies, and to fight for each and every person we represent.

Immigrants' rights are under attack, and we must act NOW. New executive orders are causing chaos. ICE is violating constitutional rights. Unjust deportations are rising. Immigrants are facing a broken court system without legal support. At Immigrant ARC, we refuse to stand by. Our 80+ legal service providers are mobilizing, but we can’t do this alone. Donate now—our board will match every dollar you give! Donate Here: https://bit.ly/3DI1nQG #ImmigrantJustice #ActNow #ProtectImmigrants

  • "All Americans, no matter what language they speak, or when they arrived in the country, deserve fair opportunities so that we can all thrive together." In response to the latest Executive Order on making English the official language of the United States, the members of the Language Justice Collaborative–namely, New York Immigration Coalition, Asian American Federation, Masa, African Communities Together (ACT), Immigrant ARC, and Haitian Americans United for Progress (HAUP)–released a joint statement. "Stripping language access is not just cruel; it undermines the fundamental principles of justice,” said Camille Mackler, Chief Executive Officer of Immigrant ARC. • From our partners over at American Immigration Council: "On February 25, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced that the Trump administration will reanimate a provision of U.S. immigration law that has essentially been dormant for decades: a requirement for all immigrants who did not enter with a visa to register with the federal government after their arrival, and carry proof of their registration with them. The administration is using this forthcoming registration process alongside federal criminal law—which makes it a crime for immigrants to fail to register or fail to carry proof of registration. In doing so, the Trump administration is giving itself another tool to use against immigrants: the threat of criminal prosecution." Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eUvfcfWp

  • On February 14, I-ARC, in partnership with Care for Immigrant Families, Vera Institute of Justice, the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), and the New York State Association of Black, Puerto Rican Hispanic and Asian Legislators (BPRHAL), hosted a panel entitled "Navigating Uncertainty: Ensuring Legal Services for Immigrant Communities" during the 2025 NYSBPHA Caucus Weekend. The panel, which discussed the importance of having access to legal representation and passing the Access to Representation Act, featured one of I-ARC's very own: Natalia Nunez Barragan, Senior Manager of Membership and Capacity Building. #I-ARC #immigrantadvocacy #NYSBPHA

  • On February 6th and 7th, I-ARC, in partnership with the New York Law School (NYLS) and the Federal Bar Association's Immigration Law Section, hosted the 2025 Annual Asylum and Immigration Conference. The conference brought together academics, policy analysts, immigration attorneys, law students, and paralegals. The agenda featured the latest research on immigration court, Latin American migration policy, and even a book discussion with Jonathan Blitzer on his book, "Everyone Who is Gone is Here: The United States, Central America, and the Making of a Crisis". One of our I-ARC team members even got her book signed (and yes, we're jealous). A special thank you to Lenni Benson of the NYLS for all of her hard work on the conference, who left us with a glimmer of hope: "Being in community is the way we get through the darkness." #immigrationadvocacy #NYLS #IARC
