#SXSW recorded the audio for many of the panels so I am catching up on what I missed. And to that I am heavily and emphatically suggesting that any creator of any media listen to this panel: From Creator To Closer: Your Path To Greenlight - https://lnkd.in/gw7cAWay Starring (and I mean that): Neil Carty / Cosm Studios, Myriam Achard / PHI Centre Montreal, Liz Rosenthal FRSA / Venice Immersive and moderated by Noah Nelson / The Immersive Experience Institute. Though these esteemed panelists are focused on immersive entertainment, there are bits of lessons in here that are applicable to anyone regardless of what media they are building their career in - from film to LBE to VR; from legacy studio system to #creatoreconomy. The panel topics ranged (great notes on pitching!), but to me and my confirmation bias, these 2 are crucial to the next era of entertainment: - IP: I've said it before - an idea is a not an IP. But the expression of it paves that road. So are you open to the possibility and discussion of what it would take to transform idea into IP? Is the story you want to tell wide and deep enough to sustain itself creatively across other formats and/or media? - Business model: Entertainment is an ecosystem and business survivability is a part of that. Venues need to keep their doors open so that they can continue to support all varieties of art and entertainment. Have you thought about your audience? Why are you telling this story? Who is it for? What marketing can support your why and get to your who? Note: no idea how long SXSW is going to allow the audio to be available. I'm so very excited to be speaking at the Next Stage Immersive Summit happening January 17-19, 2025 at the Pasadena Playhouse! The Immersive Experience Institute and No Proscenium bring together an amazing community that cross pollinates across immersive theater, theme park experiences, installation art, experiential marketing, gaming, XR and more -- i.e. everything that I love and am inspired by! I'll be speaking on the "Leveraging XR For Social Impact" Panel, with some formidable creators whose work I greatly admire, Scarlett Kim Cameron Kostopoulos and Wadooah Wali and it will be moderated by the brilliant Sarah Wolozin of the MIT Open Documentary Lab. I can't wait to attend all of the other panels and hang out with my fellow Immersive Experience nerds at the Pasadena Playhouse, which, on a personal note, means a lot to me, because it's where as a young theater director just out of college I participated in the Lincoln Center Theater Directors' Lab some twenty (!) years ago.
