NCSA has awarded Fiddler Innovation Fellowships to 17 University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and NCSA graduate students honoring their outstanding achievements and interdisciplinary contributions to NCSA programs Students Pushing Innovation (SPIN) and Design For America at UIUC. The awards are part of a $2 million endowment from Jerry Fiddler and Melissa Alden to Illinois in support of student and faculty interdisciplinary research initiatives through the Illinois Emerging Digital Research and Education in Arts Media (eDream) Institute. Reflecting on an Inspiring Experience at the IMMERSE Research Lab Event: Last Thursday, I had the privilege of attending the "Designing the IMMERSE Research Lab" event at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at UIUC. This gathering brought together faculty and researchers passionate about the future of immersive systems (VR/AR/MR/XR). The session was a deep dive into envisioning and equipping the new IMMERSE research lab. I was particularly struck by the innovative ideas presented during the lightning talks, which provided invaluable insights into the potential applications and infrastructure needed to support cutting-edge research in immersive technologies. IMMERSE: Center for Immersive Computing has always been a place close to my heart. Reflecting on my internship days, I feel immense gratitude for the guidance and support from my supervisor, Alice Delage whose kindness and expertise helped me grow both personally and professionally. I’ve also always admired Professor Sarita Adve dedication to advancing the field, and it’s thrilling to see the tangible ways in which IMMERSE is growing under their leadership. I am eagerly looking forward to future events and continuing to connect with the community that is as passionate about immersive technologies as I am.
