It’s hard to beat the sound of clean, running water being brought to a community, bringing with it a renewed sense of hope, peace, and stability??? This summer, we were able to bring clean water to the community in Turkana, an arid desert region. Access to clean water changes everything - children are empowered to pursue their education, women are able to achieve greater equality, and the health and well-being of entire communities are uplifted. We are so grateful for this incredible opportunity to empower individuals in Turkana, but it does not stop there. In Turkana, over 80% of the population lives in absolute poverty. Turkana County is known for its hard-to-reach location, lack of resources, and harsh conditions. But it is also home to a community of people full of life, joy, and a determination to make the most of what each day brings. Of women who have big dreams, hopes, and aspirations to build a better life for themselves and their families. These are the women we are fighting for. After a recent visit to Turkana, we realized our work there is not done. Though it will not be easy, we believe that we can find a way to continue empowering women in the community through dignified work + holistic care, and we have already seen beautiful things come from this new model. Introducing: our Woman-to-Woman Sponsorship Program At Imani Collective, we believe in genuine relationships, human connection, and the power of community. When you sponsor a woman and become their empowerment partner, you will be connected with them, and get to know them as they get to know you. As in everything we do, the heart behind this program is not to be transactional, but transformational. Women who are sponsored are empowered to transform their lives through dignified work + holistic care programs such as childcare, daily meals, financial trainings and more. This uplifts entire families and communities as they are sustainably empowered to rise above poverty. The next chapter for our Mtepeni childcare teachers. Regina and Eunice are the amazing childcare teachers in Mtepeni Village who have been faithfully watching over, loving, teaching, and entertaining all of our artisans’ kiddos for many years at Imani Collective. In light of the transitions in Mtepeni, Regina and Eunice have decided to start their own daycare company for Mtepeni Village. We will be giving Regina and Eunice all of the toys and materials from our childcare program, and are so grateful for the hearts they have for these children and continuing to share their time, knowledge, and love with them. We cannot wait to watch Regina and Eunice run their daycare and see these children continue to grow and thrive! #childcare #entrepreneurship #socialimpact #nonprofit #africa #kenya
