During a recent visit to schools implementing the BEFIT EdTech program, I had the opportunity to meet with community stakeholders and hear firsthand about the program's impact. One parent shared something that truly stood out to me: beyond improving literacy and numeracy skills, BEFIT is introducing digital literacy to learners in remote areas—some of whom have never seen or touched a smartphone, let alone a tablet. This conversation made me realize that the BEFIT program is doing more than improve the learners literacy and numeracy skills; it’s helping bridge the digital divide for young learners, a significant step forward for the future of our country. I look forward to a day when these little ones will come out as giants in tech. Teachers gain innovative tools and techniques to improve classroom sessions, while parents are proud to see their children access modern learning opportunities. BEFIT is an Education Technology (Edtech) program that is being implemented by the Ministry of Education through the Directorate of Open Distance and E-learning (DoDEL) and Directorate of Basic Education (DBE). The program will enable learners in all public primary schools in Malawi, approximately 6000, to learn using tablets specifically those in standards 1 to 4.
