On Sunday July 14th, the museum suffered damage as the result of a microburst in downtown Joliet. The building took a heavy hit as part of the roof of the Joliet Junior College City Center Campus blew off and landed on the museum. We are extremely grateful that no one was injured during this tragedy. We have been temporarily closed to the public this past week as we work with our contractors through the cleanup process. We are fortunate that Gigantar, our exhibit artifacts and the gift shop merchandise all escaped any damage. While insurance will cover the cost of repairs to the building, it will not cover utilities, mortgage and other incidentals that become a deficit due to the temporary closure and loss of revenue. Can you help us with Gettin' Back In The Groove? Please consider a donation and help us continue our work. www.roadtorock.org/donate/ We are...#RoadToRock We are...#RoadToRockStrong

The Civil Right Movement has been described as one of the greatest singing movements that this country has experienced. From "We Shall Overcome" to "This Little Light of Mine," music played a vital role as an inspirational rallying point and as a way to spread the message of equality and justice. In a show created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the civil rights movement, award-winning Illinois folksinger Chris Vallillo performs pivotal songs from the music that inspired and sustained this landmark movement. Intermixed with the music, Vallillo presents first-hand accounts of the historic struggle and discusses the impact of music to one of our nation's most important social causes. https://lnkd.in/gR8FAzHk
