The holiday season is a time to count our blessings, generously share with others, reflect on the year’s accomplishments, and plan for the year ahead. For those of us that work in public health, we have much to be thankful for. Public health professionals across Illinois have worked tirelessly this past year to keep our residents safe from illness and disease, ensure our communities have access to clean water and air, and help our neighborhoods thrive and prosper. We can all take pride in knowing that our communities are safer and healthier because of the vitally important work that public health professionals do. The year ahead is likely to bring both new challenges and opportunities for public health in Illinois. In 2025, the Illinois Public Health Association (IPHA) will continue to advance the work of public health for all Illinois communities. We will lead public health advocacy efforts, workforce development, professional education, public health programming, and more. In short, we will continue to be the voice for public health in Illinois. To continue our success, we need your help and support. On this Giving Tuesday, we ask that you assist our public health efforts across Illinois with a generous donation. We cannot face the challenges and opportunities ahead without adequate funding to advance our efforts. So please, make an investment in your profession, and in protecting the health of our communities by donating to IPHA. You can make a one-time donation or establish a monthly donation by clicking here. All donations, large and small, will help protect and promote public health in Illinois. Thank you for your kindness and generosity, and for the passion and dedication to protecting the health and wellbeing of all Illinoisans. ipha.com

Today is Public Health Thank You Day! Public health is protecting health. Public health is preventing disease. Public health is improving our quality of life. This year’s theme, “Public health is a lifesaver, today and every day“ calls attention to the countless ways public health professionals work daily to promote and protect health and shines a light on their dedication to serving communities across the country and around the globe. Whether it's ensuring communities have access to healthy foods or disease surveillance to prevent the next outbreak, the public health workforce in the U.S. and globally works day in and day out to make sure we all can live longer, healthier lives. #PHTYD

Most veterans readjust to life off the battlefield with few difficulties. But 44% of those who’ve served in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to one survey—say they’ve had problems readjusting after their return. The troops engaged in Iraq and Afghanistan have included more women, parents of young children, and reserve and National Guard troops than in previous conflicts. Veterans need access to a full spectrum of health care services which are focused on the health issues specific to veterans. The US Department of Veterans Affairs offers health benefits and wellness programs designed to assist veterans with their health care needs. #VeteransDay #VeteransDay2024 #veteransupport #PublicHealthMatters
