Join us on Thursday, October 10th as we celebrate Fire Prevention Week in Woodridge at the 83rd annual FPW Luncheon. Nearly 400 fire service personnel will be on hand for lunch and award presentations. The keynote presentation will be given by Chief Michael O'Brian from the Brighton Area Fire Authority (MI) on how the fire service needs to catch-up on emerging technologies such as battery-powered vehicles and energy storage systems. This grant will enable Camp I Am Me to purchase 16,000 10-year sealed battery smoke alarms and nearly 400 bed shaker smoke alarm aids for hard-of-hearing and deaf residents. The Be Alarmed! program, cooperatively administered with the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal, has more than 280 participating Illinois Fire Departments to support the distribution and installations! For over 30 years, Camp I Am Me’s Summer Camp has provided a special and unforgettable one-week camp experience for children and teenagers who have experienced injuries from burns.?This year, we had 8 new campers join us and we learned how important our camp was to them. One of our new young camps was asked towards the end of camp, “How is camp going for you so far?”?This 8-year old’s answer was jaw dropping and melted our hearts.?She said, “At first I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I knew I wanted to come.?Being here for a few days, I know that this is where I belong.?We are all different but we are the same all at once.?Camp is where we can tell our stories and learn from each other, and my favorite thing to do at camp so far is the Blob.
