The InterQnet project led by ECE Professor Eric Chitambar and Physics Professor Jacob Covey shows that “one promising route to have fully capable quantum computers is to distribute computation between smaller ‘nodes’ that are linked together over a network,” Chitambar explains. 关于我们
ECE ILLINOIS consistently ranks amongst the top five ECE departments in the country. Our accredited Electrical Engineering (EE) and Computer Engineering (CE) undergraduate programs offer more than 130 courses, and 100 faculty members who are among the best in their fields. The LEED Platinum Certified ECE Building opened in the fall of 2014, and it provides our students the space they need to discover their passions. It features 45 research and instructional labs, giving you plenty of chances to learn on the equipment you’ll use in the future. Our building is adjacent to other lab and multi-disciplinary research facilities where students and faculty members are conducting cutting-edge ECE research.

??Congratulations to ECE professor Viktor Gruev! Gruev’s research project “Bioinspired Multispectral and Polarization Sensitive Cameras” will be supported by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. ?? Inspired by the complex eyes of the mantis shrimp, one of the most effective predators in the world, Gruev aims to develop a single-component sensor that simultaneously detects multiple facets of light. ??

A big congratulations to all the 2024 alumni award recipients, and thank you to Chris Brown for sharing this video and message from the Fall board meeting and award ceremony. ILL! ?? ??
One final, personal reflection from our recent Fall board meeting and award ceremony, where we celebrated the distinguished alumni of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (Illinois ECE) at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Serving on this board for over seven years has been an incredibly rewarding experience, but I find myself more excited than ever about the future of the department, our board’s work, and, most importantly, the ECE students—including my own son—who are just beginning their journeys here. This excitement is fueled by the remarkable people I’ve had the privilege to meet and collaborate with—fellow board members, inspiring alumni, dedicated faculty, and passionate staff. In the video below, you’ll see a moment that perfectly captures the magic of this alumni network: my fellow board members and I congratulating the seven outstanding alumni whose careers and contributions are nothing short of extraordinary. But what strikes me most is the company I’m standing in. I have the honor of working alongside two other pioneering ECE alumni in their own right (Sakshi Srivastava and Yemaya Bordain)—trailblazers whose stories will undoubtedly be told to future generations of ECE students and beyond, for the barriers they’ve broken and the impact they’ve ALREADY made! Being part of this ecosystem, working with these exceptional individuals, and collaborating with our new department head, Jennifer Bernhard, is a WIN-WIN-WIN. Together, we’re not just celebrating achievements but actively building bridges—connecting alumni, faculty, and students to inspire and uplift one another. This is the heart of what makes our ECE alumni network so powerful: it’s a community that strives to foster connection, mentorship, and shared success across generations. I’m proud to play a role in continuing that tradition. So CONGRATS again to Dr. Bradley McCredie (ECE PhD '91), Dr. Srikanth Thirumalai (ECE PhD '96), Dr. Chin-Chi Teng, Prof. Ernie Sammann, Heather Dowdy (BS '06), Prof. Prateek Mittal (PhD '12), Divey Gulati (BS '09) and THANK YOU to our board: Sharon Hwang, Pierre Martin, Yemaya Bordain, Sakshi Srivastava, Mimi Aung, Anne Y. Woo, Jeff Lale, Dennis Matthews, and Corey Snyder. ILL! ??
