Over fifty years ago, a handful of visionary leaders founded the Illinois Bar Foundation. Their initial commitment was to provide aid to deserving members of the Illinois Bar who, because of age or infirmity, could no longer provide for their own care or support. Since then, the Foundation has expanded its scope to ensure meaningful access to the justice system, especially for those with limited means, and to assist lawyers who can no longer support themselves due to incapacity. With the Vision to be the statewide leader in advancing equal justice, the Foundation has established the following organizational objectives: -- Enhance the availability of legal aid to those of limited means. -- Encourage pro-bono legal work. -- Educate Illinois residents regarding their rights and responsibilities under the law. -- Extend assistance to colleagues in need of support.

  • 2024's Best Band winners are back! Today's Featured Band is The Thornes! The Thornes, sponsored by Advocus National Title Insurance Company The Thornes are a band that joined together 12 years ago. At the time it was primarily composed of fathers of children who attended Hawthorne Scholastic Academy, a Chicago Public Magnet school located in the shadow of Wrigley Field, the home of the World Champion Chicago Cubs. At one time, the band had 14 children attending the school at the same time! The band is comprised of a group of talented musicians all of whom played (or still play) with Chicago area bands, including four lawyers: bassist Joe Gagliardo, a Judge on the Illinois Court of Claims; Sean O’Brien, attorney and counsel for human rights at Monterrosa Law Group; and drummer Peter Birnbaum, the President of Advocus National Title Insurance Company and Chief Justice of the Illinois Court of Claims. Steve Schneck, a well-regarded member of the federal trial bar and noted jazz horn player who adds a beautiful sound to The Thornes and is an audience favorite. Bob Barnett (keyboard), Louie Kritikos (guitar) and Jeff Moster (guitar and vocals) complete The Thornes. The primary mission of the band is to combine our love of music with fundraising for causes of special interest to us such as Hawthorne School and the Illinois Bar Foundation. The band has played in several great venues including Adler Planetarium, Lincoln Park Zoo, Buddy Guy’s, The Double Door and Schuba’s. The Thornes have been privileged to play with and as the opening act for several great bands and musicians, most notably Big Head Todd and the Monsters. The band has previously competed in numerous Lawyers Rock shows, winning both the “Best Band” and “Fan Favorite” Awards and they’re looking to bring another win home this year!   • This year's Lawyers Rock will be here before you know it! The lineup is set, now it's time to meet our bands! Today's featured band is The Motions, sponsored by ISBA Mutual Insurance Company The Motions are a 4-piece rock band founded in 2016 by Attorneys Steve Klein and Aaron Rosenblatt. Steve Klein is the guitarist and songwriter for the band and founding partner at Marx and Klein: Criminal Defense and DUI Attorneys. Aaron Rosenblatt plays the drums and is a founding partner at Criminal Defense Lawyer of Chicago P.C. In 2020, Carissa Meyer, senior attorney at Clark Hill in insurance/reinsurance, joined as the lead singer. Carissa also produces the Chicago Bar Association's Bar Show with some other very funny and talented lawyers. Ivan "King of Thunder" Starostenko most recently joined the band as its bassist.   • We are less than two weeks away from this year's Lawyers Rock! IBF's "Battle of the Bands" is back at Bottom Lounge! Today's featured band, making their Lawyers Rock debut, is Coyote Heavy, sponsored by Hassakis & Hassakis, P.C. Coyote Heavy is a hard rock and heavy metal band that formed one cold night in January 2024. It is the brainchild of Derek Dominguez (Partner, Hughes Socol Piers Resnick & Dym, Ltd.) and Mike Nicola who over pizza and beer decided to start writing an album of hard hitting and heavy music that harkened back to their musical influences such as Metallica, Alice in Chains, and Rage Against The Machine. One year later, they have written more than a full album’s worth of original music, and they are joined by Derek’s brother, Gaston Dominguez, and their cousin, Tito Garcia. They are excited to bring a very heavy dose of infectious hard rock to the stage on March 13th as they tear through some of their favorite cover songs!
