Today marks the 25th Transgender Day of Remembrance (#TDOR), a day to honor the memories of those lost to anti-transgender violence. Commemorating TDOR not only provides a space for mourning but also raises awareness about the violence and discrimination faced by transgender people. According to the U.S. Transgender Survey Report (Advocates for Trans Equality), 54% of all transgender people experienced intimate partner violence in their lifetime. ?? 关于我们
The Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) is a membership organization working to eliminate domestic violence in Illinois. ICADV serves over 50 statewide agencies who provide direct service to survivors and their dependent children. ICADV aims to increase access to ever-improving services for survivors of all backgrounds. We do this by advocating for strong policies that keep survivors safer and hold batterers accountable. We also strive to educate the public on the root causes of domestic violence, and with that increased awareness, focus on preventing the cycle of violence from continuing. A more just, accepting, and safe society for everyone is our ultimate goal.

Today, we celebrate 10 years of Marsy's Law For Illinois. ?? This monumental addition to the Illinois Constitution, known as the Illinois Crime Victims’ Bill of Rights Amendment, ensures that crime victims in Illinois have comprehensive, meaningful and enforceable rights, as well remedies when these rights are violated. Over the last decade, Marsy's Law has given a voice to thousands of victims of crime and provided support and protection to them and their families. ICADV is proud to have been part of the work to establish and implement these protections in our state since the beginning, standing with our friends at the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault. Today, we continue to stand strong together and raise our voices for those impacted by crime in our communities. Marsy's Law is, and continues to be, a labor of love for many in Illinois. To all who provide support, work hard, and raise their voices on behalf of victims of crime, we thank you! This month, the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act celebrated its 40th anniversary! ?? #FVPSA is the only federal funding source dedicated to domestic violence shelters and programs, with over 1,500 local domestic violence programs relying on FVPSA funding to provide lifesaving services to more than 1.3 million survivors each year. To all the advocates who have provided these services over the last 40 years, THANK YOU! ?? #SupportSurvivors #BeTheGood #OneMissionOneVoice

Studies show that up to 99% of domestic violence survivors experience financial abuse, and more than 70% of survivors identify “access to money” as a barrier to leaving an abuser. This means that many survivors are forced to stay with abusers for months, even years, before they can afford housing and other essentials. In 2023, ICADV embarked on a journey with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's violence prevention lab to convene survivors of domestic violence to explore their individual experiences when seeking help and share their recommendations to strengthen available networks of supports available in communities throughout the state. This project elevated the stories of 46 survivors who came together to talk through things they had gone through and the support systems they sought out. This project resulted in a data report that includes research findings and the recommendations that survivors made, which will help ICADV staff and domestic violence program staff to focus efforts in the coming years. ?? ??JOIN US THIS WEEK for a FREE live webinar during which we will explore the findings and recommendations included in the data release. ??Event: Amplifying the Voices of Domestic Violence Survivors in Illinois: Data Report Webinar ??Date: Thursday, October 24th ?Time: 10 AM CST ??Register: https://ow.ly/hmRP50TR8rH #AmplifyingSurvivorVoices #Every1KnowsSome1 #DVAM #EndDV #EndDVIllinois #BeTheGood #OneMissionOneVoice School of Social Work, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
