??Webinar #EIC Pathfinder & EIC Transition. Yesterday we organised a webinar along with UPV/EHU on the EIC Pathfinder & EIC Transition programme in #HorizonEurope. The EIC Pathfinder and EIC Transition programmes are part of Pillar III of Innovative Europe within the EIC (European Innovation Council). The EIC Pathfinder call funds advanced research in order to develop the scientific basis that supports cutting-edge technologies, while the EIC Transition call supports the validation of these technologies and the development of business plans focused on specific applications. ?? Zorionak CIC bioGUNE! Congrats!
#bioGUNE_News | ?? We celebrated the first day of #CICbioGUNE’s 20th-anniversary event! In a day full of reflection and vision, we explored the past, present, and future of science in the Basque Country and Spain, tracing #CICbioGUNE’s, member of BRTA - Basque Research & Technology Alliance, journey since its foundation ?? The event featured two high-level panel discussions: 1?? "The State of Science in Spain and the Basque Country" Moderated by Jesus Jimenez-Barbero, Scientific Director of #CICbioGUNE, the panel featured prominent experts such as: ?? Nazario Martin León (Royal Academy of Exact, Physical, & Natural Sciences) ?? Carlos Diéguez (President of the Biomedicine Scientific Area, AEI) ?? Fernando P. Cossío Mora (Scientific Director of Ikerbasque) ?? Laureano Simon (CEO and founder of Oncomatryx Biopharma) 2?? "Challenges in Science from the Perspective of New Generations" Moderated by José M Mato, General Director of #CICbioGUNE, this panel addressed the challenges of science from the perspective of a new generation of scientific leaders in the Basque Country and Spain. Participants included: ?? Aitziber López Cortajarena (CIC biomaGUNE) ?? Arkaitz Carracedo (#CICbioGUNE) ?? Lucy Anne Parker (Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche) ?? María Mittelbrunn (Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa, CBM-CSIC-UAM) ?? Javier Santos Moreno (Universitat Pompeu Fabra - Barcelona) This panel discussion is part of a series coordinated by José M. Mato, trustee of the Fundación de Ciencias de la Salud, aiming to explore what the near future holds for biomedical research through interviews with some of the most prestigious young scientists in fields like chemistry, biology, medicine, mathematics, and physics ?? A key takeaway: "This twentieth anniversary not only celebrates the achievements that have made #CICbioGUNE a benchmark in scientific research, but also encourages us to look to the future with a clear, ambitious, and transformative vision. It’s now up to the new generation of scientific leaders to make the strategic decisions necessary to keep us at the forefront of knowledge" The event concluded with a speech by Prof. Juan Ignacio Pérez Iglesias, Zientzia, Unibertsitate eta Berrikuntza Saila bringing this historic day to a close ?? Many thanks to everyone who made this event possible and to all who joined us on this special day. This event was organized in collaboration with the Fundación de Ciencias de la Salud, reaffirming our commitment to advancing science and fostering collaboration between generations ?? ??"Birds have developed complex brains independently of mammals" Two studies published in the latest issue of #ScienceMagazine, led by Fernando García-Moreno, an Ikerbasque researcher at the Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience and the UPV/EHU, along with collaborators, have revealed that birds, reptiles, and mammals have independently developed complex brain circuits despite sharing a common ancestor. These findings challenge the traditional view of brain evolution and demonstrate that, although comparable brain functions exist among these groups, embryonic formation mechanisms and cell types have followed divergent evolutionary trajectories.
