Now on Earlycite! Exploring the impact of payment method perceived value on transaction experience and willingness to pay: evidence from Innsbruck Christmas Market By Ruoyuan Wang and Chung-Shing Johnson Chan This study investigates how the perceived value of payment methods affects the transaction experience at the Christmas market and how this experience influences consumer willingness to pay. Additionally, this study examines the mediating role of transaction experience. The sample was taken from tourists who visited the Innsbruck Christmas market in 2023. A total of 347 valid questionnaires were collected through a combination of paper questionnaires randomly distributed offline to Christmas market patrons (random sample) and questionnaires posted online (self-selected sample). Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the data in this study. The results demonstrate that consumers’ transaction experience at the Christmas market is significantly influenced by their perceptions of cash inefficiency, health risks associated with cash, convenience of cashless payments and security and privacy of cashless payments. Furthermore, the transaction experience has a significant impact on consumer willingness to pay. Additionally, the perceived value of payment methods and willingness to pay are mediated by the transaction experience.

Now on Earlycite! Gender minorities at music festivals by Maarit Kinnunen and Antti Honkanen The purpose was to examine the prevalence and type of inappropriate behaviour gender minorities face and how they perceive such behaviour. The study is framed within Gidley?et?al.’s social inclusion model, indicating areas where actions are needed to avoid social exclusion. The research data comprised over 12,000 responses to a web survey, which included 184 responses from gender minority members and four in-depth, semi-structured interviews. The data were analysed using statistical methods and interpretative phenomenological analysis. About 59% of gender minority members had experienced inappropriate behaviour, compared to 34% of female festival attendees. The most common form of inappropriate behaviour towards gender minorities was harassment because of gender, followed by sexual harassment, physically threatening situations and harassment because of appearance or clothing. Interviews were analysed against the theoretical framework of social inclusion, determining how the experiences influenced access, participation and empowerment. https://lnkd.in/eFXdkPj8

?? New paper out in International Journal of Event and Festival Management with Carlos Monterrubio - Unravelling the complexities of carnivals: potentials and challenges for social change in Mexico. Based on ethnographic fieldwork conducted around the Carnaval de Ixtapan in Central Mexico, we argue that carnivals can be both transgressive - shifting gender and heteronormative dynamics - and regressive - reinforcing existing power dynamics and male dominance.
