In this session we will explore the most common areas where internal audit is not using critical thinking skills, and how you can start to make some small changes to increase your critical thinking skills and apply them practically, without seeming like a cynic or difficult person. You will increase your professional skepticism and critical thinking skills both professionally and personally, better equip yourself for performing risk based internal audits, and learn to ask better questions. ----------- ** Strategic Planning and Execution for Internal Audit If you are following the IIA Standards, the GIAS now requires internal audit to have a strategic plan. If you don't follow the IIA Standards, you should still have a strategic plan and act strategically, since that is the most effective way to add real value to your organization. In this session we will explain strategy and how internal audit can develop a strategic plan and start acting more strategic, whether you are the head of internal audit or a member of the audit team. Attention IIA Phoenix Chapter Members: Are You Missing Our Emails? We’ve recently learned that some members might not be receiving communications from [email protected]—our official email address for updates, event invitations, and other important chapter news. This email address was introduced by IIA Headquarters earlier this year, and while most members are receiving messages without issue, there are a few potential reasons why some emails might not be making it to your inbox: 1. Your Company’s Email Filters Corporate email systems often have strict security measures in place, and new or unfamiliar email addresses may not be whitelisted. As a result, our messages might be filtered out before they even reach you. Solution: Ask your IT department to whitelist the email address: [email protected]. 2. Emails Marked as Spam Even if our emails reach your inbox, email clients (e.g., Outlook, Gmail) sometimes automatically classify them as spam. Solution: Check your spam or junk folder for recent emails from [email protected]. If you find one, mark it as “Not Spam” or move it to your inbox. Add the email address to your contact list to improve future deliverability. 3. Email Preferences or Errors If you’ve previously unsubscribed from IIA emails or there was an error in your contact information, you might not be receiving updates. Solution: Log in to your IIA account on the member portal and verify your email address is correct. Check your communication preferences to ensure you’re subscribed to chapter communications.
