On Sunday, the 29th, I was welcomed onto the stage of my beloved home, the International House to join the historic celebration of the Sunday Supper as a Blesser. During the Blessing, which I delivered in my mother tongue, Portuguese, I had the incredible opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude for this amazing community and take a moment to thank "my brothers and sisters of the world." I have lived in many places and countries, but never have I felt such a deep sense of belonging and connection to something as meaningful, reflecting my values and what I truly believe. I am blessed to be part of this centennial cohort! The International House embodied the "United Nations" even before the creation of the UN. It all started with what could have been just "small talk" between an American student and a Chinese student from Columbia University. The Chinese student had the courage to open up and express how much that conversation meant to him, as he had already been in NYC for a few weeks and no one had spoken to him yet. Acts of courage inspire more acts of courage, and this moment of connection inspired the American student and his wife to found the International House 100 years ago, where students continue to exchange ideas and experience international cooperation daily. International House has welcomed as residents incredible souls who went on to make a change in the world. Among its alumni, IHouse counts former presidents, Nobel Prize winners, authors, and Grammy Award winners. Nelson Mandela himself delivered a speech at IHouse. I feel honored to be part of this community and to understand just how magical the IHouse experience truly is! Obrigada por ser o meu lar, Ihouse!

Ditto to everything said by Amanda Bradshaw, Ph.D. It’s been a little over a week since our wonderful reunion weekend celebrating the centennial of International House in New York, and I’m still feeling so full of joy and gratitude for my time spent there. I-House helped shape me into the person I am today, and left me with some lifelong friendships near and far. Thanks to an active alumni presence, I’m still finding new friends today who share a love of I-House. It is truly a special place to have called home.
