The IHG Owners Association—originally established by Holiday Inn founder Kemmons Wilson in 1955—was the first association of its kind in the hotel industry. In pursuit of its mission to strengthen the returns on members’ investments in IHG hotels, it represents the interests of owners and operators of more than 5,000 IHG properties in the United States, Africa, the Asia Pacific, Canada, Europe, Latin America, Mexico and the Middle East. As the holiday season approaches, American Hotel & Lodging Association and Morning Consult conducted a survey on Americans’ travel plans for the next four months, revealing that roughly 32% are likely to travel overnight this year for Thanksgiving. While inflation remains a significant hurdle for guests, who say it is likely to reduce their chances of traveling, hotels remain the top lodging choice for both leisure (45%) and business travelers (59%). We had an amazing time seeing everyone at last week’s 2024 IHG Americas Conference! Thank you to all the members and partners that joined us for our Swing Fore Wishes Golf Tournament benefiting Give Kids The World Village, Member Meeting & Networking Reception, Member Party and trade show booth. Our exclusive networking events were a great way to end the year as we look ahead to a continued celebration of our 70th anniversary in 2025.

It was wonderful seeing so many of you at last night’s Member Meeting, where more than 600 IHG owners and operators gathered to hear the latest Association updates from our leaders, as well as an industry performance report from Allied Member STR, before catching up during our Networking Reception over drinks. Congratulations to 2015 Association Chair Kerry V. Ranson, who was presented with our coveted 2024 Kemmons Wilson Service Award for his commitment to the Association and global hospitality community.

The American Hotel & Lodging Association and World Wildlife Fund have launched a revamped Hotel Kitchen platform to help hoteliers prevent food waste, protect the environment and reduce operating costs. Originally launched in 2017, the platform now offers guidelines and best practices for hotel employees, faster access to their most popular resources and an updated online training workspace—ultimately helping reach the goal of cutting U.S. food waste in half by 2030.
