This 40th anniversary year, we’re celebrating the incredible people who make our mission possible. One of them is?Bimal Patel, a dedicated mentor at?Amazon, who has spent four summers guiding teachers through our Summer Fellowship Program. His passion for education and innovation shines through: "When I learned about Amazon sponsoring the Ignited Summer Fellowship program, I couldn’t wait to get involved. Teachers play a critical role in transforming our education system, and this program empowers them to drive that change. An added benefit is shaping the future workforce by equipping students with real-world insights. I’ve had the privilege of mentoring teachers for four summers, and each experience has been uniquely rewarding. The rewards are mutual—teachers bring fresh ideas and help develop new skills in our employees, while gaining insights into corporate culture and mental models to share with their students. This program is a true win-win, optimizing efficiency and impact for our community." Ignited is honored to receive funding from?Electrify America?to support our STEM Education EVolved Campaign! We were honored to host?Neda D.?as our expert industry speaker at Ignited's February Learning Community, "Solving Community Challenges Through EV Advocacy." Neda shared her inspiring journey from being a law student and first-time EV owner in Chicago, to drafting a bill that expanded access to EV charging for renters and condo owners, which ultimately?became law in Illinois. Now an attorney and advocate at the Environmental Defense Fund, Neda works to ensure?equitable access to zero-emission vehicles. She reminds us: "My story mattered, my perspective mattered, because I brought something to the proverbial table of advocacy that no one else had experienced." Her work?continues, pushing for improved?charging infrastructure, sustainable and cost-effective policies for a transition to zero-emission vehicles, and equitable access to charging for all—both?locally in Illinois and at the federal level. By connecting educators with industry professionals, we help bridge the gap between classroom learning and workforce needs—ensuring that students gain the skills and exposure necessary for success, while employers cultivate a pipeline of future-ready talent. Let’s work together to build a stronger, more prepared workforce!

Genentech?addresses systemic inequities in science and medicine to advance a more just healthcare system. For over 30 years, Genentech has partnered with Ignited to drive STEM education forward by: - Hosting 29 fellowships - Providing frequent grant support - Creating Futurelab+ to expand biotech education in underserved high schools with curriculum and teacher professional development We are thrilled to offer more fellowships with Genentech this coming summer! Together, we have served 75 teachers, impacting 39,000 students and counting.

We are proud to celebrate the outstanding educators who have been awarded Ignited's 2024 Fund for Innovation Grants! These grants help bring innovative classroom projects to life--from hands-on electronic circuit labs that teach students to program in Python, to designing smart programmable electric cars. These educators are already putting their projects into action this school year, enhancing their classroom instruction and inspiring creativity. A special thank you to the Office of Naval Research and Electrify America for their generous support in making these projects possible. With this support, educators are turning ideas into action!

Ignited staff and?Ohlone College?faculty visited?NVIDIA?and?Santa Clara University?in January as part of a project supported by the?U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF)! The project, titled "Expanding Opportunities and Instructional Innovations for English Language Learners in Computer Science" aims to increase and diversify the computer science graduation rate at two-year colleges. The visits to NVIDIA and Santa Clara University were an exciting step toward building stronger industry and academic partnerships, gaining insights into cutting-edge technology, and exploring new opportunities to support English language learners in computer science. These experiences will help shape innovative instructional approaches and expand pathways for student success!
