?? What does it mean to make ethical choices in a consumer-driven world—especially on our campuses? The Ignatian Solidarity Network is leading the way in helping Catholic colleges and universities (as well as high schools, parishes, and other ministries) live out their values through ethical purchasing practices via the Catholic Ethical Purchasing Alliance. From worker rights to environmental sustainability, CEPA is providing a platform to ensure that institutional decisions align with Catholic Social Teaching and the dignity of every person in the supply chain. ?? Shoutout to the #Catholic colleges, universities, high schools, etc. stepping up to ask hard questions: Who makes our goods? Under what conditions? How is the Earth impacted by their creation? And how can we act justly as institutions of faith and learning? ?? And, to great funders like the Labor 411 Foundation! #CatholicSocialTeaching #EthicalPurchasing #JesuitEducated #HigherEd #IgnatianSolidarity #FaithInAction #Sustainability #WorkersRights #CatholicHigherEd University of Dayton, Villanova University, John Carroll University, Xavier University, Saint Louis University, Cardinal Gibbons High School, Loyola University Maryland, Fordham University

March 21: Gretchen Crowder shares vulnerably about a time when—like the figures in today’s readings—her emotions ran wild and got the best of her. She challenges us all with a question about how we can show up as the best version of ourselves AND respond to our legitimate emotions with intentionality. Ethix is honored to be featured in America Media's recent article about how colleges, high schools, and universities are consciously shifting toward more ethical sources for their branded merchandise. We’re proud to lead the charge alongside the Ignatian Solidarity Network, the Catholic Ethical Purchasing Alliance, and hyperlocal ethical apparel manufacturers like TS Designs. As Ethix Ethical Purchasing Program Coordinator, Alayna Milby, puts it: “There is a need for this, for a shift in the promotional products [and apparel industries] for high schools, colleges and universities. The fact that we’ve been able to [pull] revenue away from those harmful industry suppliers really speaks to the fact that folks will spend more money and will do the extra work to find the products.” Many thanks to all the colleges (and high schools!) prioritizing ethically sourced products for your bookstores! March 18: Sister Erin McDonald, C.S.J. challenges us to recognize the proverbial Pharisee in ourselves before recognizing one in all the places and people outside us. She asks, "Is our faith in Jesus a matter of law or love?...Do I use the Gospel to justify my own self-righteousness or use the Gospel as a way to love, uplift, forgive, and include everyone?"
