Building Bangladesh’s synthetic biology future starts with passionate iGEMers like Showmick Paul, Usrat Nubah and Abrar Hasan. For them, iGEM was more than a competition, it was an entry into a global scientific network and a vision for bringing synthetic biology to Bangladesh. Despite competing in teams outside their home country, they are determined to start their homeland's iGEM Competition journey, believing that iGEM can drive innovation in biotechnology, agriculture and biomanufacturing. Read more on our blog to learn how iGEM is opening doors, inspiring young scientists and shaping the future of biotech in Bangladesh. https://lnkd.in/dKUaHkru #iGEMAsia #iGEMBangladesh #SynBio

“We created the first iGEM team at the University of Geneva in 2019. During my PhD, I saw the iGEM Competition and I was fascinated by it. Once in my life, I wanted to create an iGEM team, because it’s a very exciting and enriching experience... We founded a team, with students from the University of Geneva, to participate in this competition, and to use the network of iGEMers, and follow the philosophy of the iGEM: To make something meaningful to improve the world.”? - Gregory Segala, CSO and Co-founder of FluoSphera Gregory Segala, CSO and Co-founder of FluoSphera- From leading the first iGEM team at the University of Geneva in 2019 to Co-founding FluoSphera: He is now advancing drug discovery with innovative multicellular systems that replicate human biology. ??Read the full article at blog.igem.org #igem #Igemstartups #synbio #biofounders

Science visuals can transform complex concepts into accessible knowledge, but the key is prioritizing clarity over creativity! This week’s tip: Clarity comes first in science illustration! Great visuals don’t just catch the eye, they make science instantly understandable. Focus on clean design, clear labels and simplified visuals to turn intricate ideas into digestible insights. Remember, the goal isn’t just aesthetics; it’s about bridging the gap between complexity and comprehension. A well-crafted illustration balances simplicity with accuracy, ensuring your audience grasps the science without getting lost in the details. What’s your go-to technique for creating clear, impactful science visuals? Share your favorite tools or tips below! #SciComm #Illustrations

In a recent op-ed in?ACS Synthetic Biology (https://lnkd.in/demfeHU8), Jake Wintermute expresses his concern about what he sees as a current twofold problem: a lack of public engagement in science, and a lack of trust in scientists. He shares why he thinks iGEM has (and is!) the answer to increasing public trust in, and engagement with, science and scientists. To see more from Jake, check out his Foundry Theory blog:?https://lnkd.in/d5PtEEqM. To read more about how iGEM is shaping the future of synthetic biology, go to?igem.org.

This month, we celebrate the women in synthetic biology who are building and empowering global communities and redefining the future of the field. For decades, leadership roles in science were a closed door to women. Today, these leaders are holding it wide open, proving that diverse perspectives fuel creativity and progress. Spanning Africa, Asia & Oceania, Europe, Latin America and North America, we’re honoring 10 extraordinary iGEMers who are advancing synthetic biology while empowering the next generation of women. From advancing the field of synthetic biology to mentoring award-winning iGEM teams, these leaders are proving that innovation thrives when science is inclusive! Their contributions remind us that synthetic biology isn’t just about cells and circuits, it’s about community. These women have mentored teams to Gold Medals, Grand Prizes, and synthetic biology solutions for important local and global problems, all while fostering a culture of collaboration and equity. At iGEM, we’re proud to support these leaders and countless others who are shaping a future where everyone can thrive in science! Blog Link: https://lnkd.in/dUBTendX #IWD2025 #SynBio
