Confidence fell throughout the month as shoppers anticipated the Budget announcement. Despite this, festivities including Diwali and Halloween were enough to lift #confidence to the give the first positive read since July. Throughout November, we expect to see #shoppers digest the more indirect Budget implications but much like October, festivities could be enough to keep confidence positive overall. As the saying goes 'if you want to go fast go alone. If you want to go far, go together' ?? IGD is delighted to see how much has been achieved by The Coronation Food Project on its first anniversary. The food industry has come together and made amazing things happen to tackle food waste and get 10 million meals to those in need. Yesterday, with FareShare UK and The Felix Project, we launched Alliance Food Sourcing. This initiative plans to carry on The Coronation Food Project's good work and save even more surplus food from the supply chain. We can only do this at scale, by working together. Read more on this from CEOs at Sainsbury's, Tesco, Marks and Spencer, Greencore and 2 Sisters Food Group in The Grocer, and join them in the Alliance by reaching out to [email protected].

It was great to come together yesterday in Southbank to celebrate the launch of our Net Zero Transition Plan for the UK food system???? Sarah Bradbury and Harriet Lamb started off by highlighting the importance of this evidence and analysis based report in meeting climate objectives to 2050 ??? David Kennedy tried his best to give a summary of the entire report in 20 minutes! Specifying that the UK food system is inextricably linked to the climate crisis, and decarbonisation of the food industry requires a systemic approach. Roger Harrabin followed on with a warning that at the current rate we will be 3°C over pre-industrial levels of emissions by 2100. However,?he did share some optimism for many of the interventions that can help tackle some of the key emissions drivers like fertilisers, energy use and food waste?? Finally, the Minister of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs closed the event, and we are very grateful to him for attending yesterday. It was clear from the event that we can go further, faster together, and collective action across the whole food system is critical to deliver on Net Zero. Thank you to all our attendees, and for anyone who didn’t attend, you can download the reports now on our website - the overview, the summary report, and the full technical report ?? https://lnkd.in/eRMTq9jB ??
