?? The Seventh Foundational Climate Prediction Training Workshop for ICPAC Member States forecasters kicked off on Monday, November 25, 2024, at ICPAC offices in Nairobi, ???? Kenya. The two-week workshop brings together 16 National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS) forecasters from countries in the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA). ?? Climate change is posing significant challenges to countries in the GHA region. Responding to these challenges depends more than ever on the capability of accessing and analyzing massive climate data and forecasting, producing reliable information. The 7th Foundational Climate Prediction Training Workshop aims to enhance the capacity of national NMHS participants to deliver reliable weather forecasts and climate information services. The workshop will equip participants with comprehensive knowledge, covering foundational seasonal prediction science, theoretical principles, practical skills for verifying probability forecasts, and bias correction and calibration techniques using machine learning. ?? The workshop is organized and delivered in partnership with the UK Met Office and funded by the Pan-African Seasonal Strengthening (PASS) project through the WISER program, supported by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and EU-funded projects including ClimSA and Anticipatory Climate Adaptation for Communities in Africa (ACACIA). Together, we are strengthening the region’s ability to adapt and thrive in a changing climate!?
