Repair guides for every thing, written by everyone.

关于我们

iFixit is a global community of people helping each other repair things. We believe that repair reduces e-waste, saves people money, and teaches engineering. Fixers from all over the world have helped us write thousands of repair manuals for everything from cellphones to appliances to clothing. Why do we do it? Because most companies—even those that make great products—don’t provide repair parts or repair documentation. Too often, people don’t have the means to repair their broken stuff and needlessly buy new things. We want to stand up against the throwaway culture. Everyone should have the right to maintain and fix what they own. And we need everyone's help to do so. Nobody knows how to fix everything—but that’s okay. Most people know how to fix something. Maybe it’s a scooter, a game console, or a stapler. Show us what you know. Collaborate with other fixers everywhere. Join the millions of people who are fixing their things. Write a repair guide, participate in our forums, and tell us your stories. It’s time that we reconnect with our things, understand how they work, and make them useful for as long as possible before we safely recycle or repurpose them. Together, we can repair the world—one repair manual at a time.

How do you prioritize repairability in your product design? As Right to Repair legislation takes effect across the USA, and consumers are becoming more mindful of the environmental impact of e-waste, designing repairable products is more important than ever. Leveraging more than two decades of experience tearing down and analyzing products from smartphones to game consoles and beyond, we love helping designers and manufacturers produce repairable products. But repairability is just one priority among many, and striking the right balance can be trickier for some products than others. What has been your experience, and what challenges are you currently facing in design for repair? Take our quick survey: https://lnkd.in/g_rTnpjV Thanks to our friends at Lumafield for this CT scan!

What do customers experience when your product needs repair? Do they have to wait for a repair appointment, or do without their product while it ships to a remote service location? If they opt for independent repair, will they have to sift through confusing parts lists, or make sure they have all the right tools? Do they have to hunt down consumables like adhesives, and try to interpret frustrating instructions? Or can they confidently effect a repair from the comfort and privacy of their own home, with free, easy-to-read instructions and genuine parts and tools delivered right to their door? Self-repair is a fast, safe, and effective option for keeping your products in service and your customers happy—and it’s increasingly popular. We love helping manufacturers build better repair ecosystems, and we’re trying to understand how we can better help you seize this opportunity. Recycling should be the last resort. On this Global Recycling Day, we want to highlight what we think should be the real third R: Reduce, Reuse, Repair. ?? More than half of the material that enters the recycling process isn't recovered. ?? The recycling process is energy-intensive. ?? Recycling rate reporting is fundamentally flawed. “In some cases, half of what we’re saying is recycled is not being recycled at all. A lot [of] times we don’t know what’s happening to it..." Listen to Oliver Franklin-Wallis explain the "foundational lie" of recycling rate reporting: https://lnkd.in/gjfvA-nh A circular economy powered by repair is better for the planet, the consumer's wallet, and the manufacturer's bottom line. More on why repair beats recycling here: https://lnkd.in/g-z9BxTz

Today is World Consumer Rights Day! ????? A day that reminds us how important transparent information, sustainable products and fair conditions are for consumers. ???? Since 1983, World Consumer Day has been celebrated every year on 15 March to draw attention to consumer rights such as safety, information and freedom of choice. Originally formulated by US President John F. Kennedy in 1962, these rights were expanded by the United Nations to include environmental and educational aspects. In the electronics industry, this means: quality, durability and innovative technologies that are efficient and resource-saving. ???? But all too often, devices end up in the bin because they are too expensive or simply impossible to repair. ???? ‘Right to Repair’ is committed to repairability, available spare parts and clear instructions - so that products can be used for longer. This conserves resources, reduces waste and strengthens the local economy. An important step towards a circular economy! ???? ?? Let's leave the throwaway society behind us together and shape a sustainable future! ???? Cheers to World Consumer Day! ?? “Whatever their reason for upgrading their tech this year, it’s time for companies to walk the walk rather than just talk the talk on sustainability. With the growing right-to-repair movement, as well as 2030 and net-zero pledges looming over the horizon, ‘brand new’ is no longer a badge of honour." https://lnkd.in/g5gkYa9p #RightToRepair #Technology #Sustainability

iFixit is a proud member of the #RighttoRepair movement, which seeks to make it easier for everyone to fix their stuff—whether that’s visiting a local repair shop or getting parts and tools delivered to your door. The U.S. PIRG Education Fund’s report from earlier this month, “State of Right to Repair,” describes recent changes in the Right to Repair movement and lays out a roadmap for continued progress. A summary and the full report are available here: https://lnkd.in/eW_ghYYM As the Right to Repair movement continues to gain ground, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) will become increasingly liable to enable repair for their products. This could mean building an entire repair ecosystem from the ground up. From educational workshops to repair documentation to parts distribution, iFixit is ready to help OEMs meet (and exceed) Right to Repair requirements. Find out how we can help: https://lnkd.in/eEVKhQai
