On #WorldFoodDay, we reaffirm our commitment to promoting food security through innovative and sustainable practices. This year’s theme “The Right to Food”, highlights the pressing need for everyone to have access to nutritious and healthy food. As global challenges grow, food security is more important than ever. In ????, we work with our partners International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC), International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), SAHEL CONSULTING SAHELCONSULTING, GAIN and CARE through dedicated programs HortiNigeria Program, Youth in Agribusiness, Collaborative Seed Program (CSP) to boost agricultural development, promote agroecological solutions and improve food systems. In the last 3 years, we have worked with over 70,000 smallholder farmers and young agri-preneurs to scale production and improve the quality of output. These programs are transforming food and nutrition security in the country. Through partnerships with ???? and ???? businesses and institutions, we’re fostering innovation and collaboration to ensure a stable food supply, while also creating jobs and promoting youth entrepreneurship. Exciting discussions are underway in Cairo this week as we convene with stakeholders from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, including our valued partners— Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, AfricaFertilizer, International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC), and Wallace Associates—to shape the future of Africa’s fertilizer data ecosystem through the Visualizing Insights on Fertilizer for African Agriculture (VIFAA) program. With VIFAA nearing its conclusion, we're exploring how AfricaFertilizer can continue to drive innovation and maintain momentum across the fertilizer sector. AfricaFertilizer's work over the years has strengthened trust between the private sector and government, paving the way for data-driven decision-making and impactful tools like the VIFAA dashboards. A key focus of our conversations has been on ensuring the sustainability of these tools beyond the program’s lifespan. Among these champions is Dr. Donald McCune, the first Chairman of IFDC’s Board of Directors, who played a pivotal role in establishing IFDC in 1974. Samuel Ssempala, IFDC Uganda Country Director, highlights discussions from the AFS Forum regarding Africa’s agricultural issues such as the rising cost of food, food security, and drought. To mitigate these issues IFDC staff and summit participants collaborated and shared knowledge on how improving Africa’s food systems can create a positive impact on local livelihoods. “We know that transforming Africa’s food systems will not only ensure food and nutrition security for millions but also generate sustainable jobs, particularly for youth and women. The potential is there, but we must be intentional about creating systems that are both inclusive and resilient,” stated Samuel.
