As the #2024Olympics are underway in Paris, France, #IERUS wanted to share a cool Olympic story from one of our own team members! Jo Jo Bynum shared his very own Olympic torch with us last Friday. Jo Jo ran as part of the 1996 Olympic torch relay, where he had the honor of being a torchbearer. Jo Jo played a part in the historic relay of the Olympic flame, which later was carried by Janet Evans and Muhammad Ali during the opening ceremony. After Jo Jo ran his portion of the route with the lit torch, he had a chance to purchase it. He also received two pins, one for the original escort runner role he intended to run and the other for the torchbearer role that he fulfilled. Jo Jo so graciously shared with our team what that experience was like and how honored he was to be a part of history. Torch Details: The torch was inspired by Greek architecture and ancient torches made of bound reeds. It bears 22 aluminum "reeds" to represent the total number of modern Olympic Games editions. The grip is composed of Georgia pecan wood and features two gold bands, one with all of the Olympic games host cities, and the other with the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games and the Quilt of Leaves motif.
