IEEE Smart Village at the 2024 IEEE PowerAfrica Conference: Advancing the mission of Empowering Communities Through Energy Innovation! The 2024 IEEE Power Africa Conference in Johnannesburg, South Africa was a remarkable gathering of passionate and dedicated minds working toward a shared vision of empowering communities through the productive use of technology. The IEEE Smart Village (ISV) Sessions featured an impactful Entrepreneurship Workshops on governance, partnerships, and resilience to empower community-based energy solutions. We also showcased inspiring ISV-funded developer projects, each one a testament to the positive impact of clean, reliable energy in underserved regions. The week featured keynote presentations from IEEE Smart Village President Rajan Kapur, The Chair IEEE Humanitarian Technologies, Lwanga Herbert, Ifeanyi Orajaka, CEO of GVE Projects Ltd and more. The ISV Sessions also featured exciting presentations from Shantha Bloemen of Mobility for Africa as well as Carl Kies and Moritz Brauchle of Africa GreenTec on a New Rural Electrification Approach - The Repower Project. The Technical tour to CSIR gave the ISV Delegates a practical insights into energy efficiency and energy storage technology. Tengo el placer de informar que el día 28/11/2024 estaré participando en el webinario "Evaluación de Modelos Híbridos de IA en la Protección Eléctrica de Transformadores de Potencia: Clasificación de Fallos con el Modelo Inception-Transformer", organizado por IEEE Power & Energy Society Espa?a(IEEE PES ESPA?A MEDIA). Resumen: Dado el auge acelerado en la implementación de algoritmos de IA en diferentes campos como la comunicación por lenguaje natural, la predicción de eventos y el control de procesos, entre otros. En CIRCE - Centro Tecnológico se está evaluando la posibilidad de aplicar ese tipo de algoritmos en el campo de la protección ante cortocircuitos en los sistemas eléctricos. Como primer paso, se analiza el comportamiento como elemento de protección de un transformador de potencia, evaluando su trabajo ante diferentes condiciones de operación y faltas de diferentes características. Este seminario web presenta un estudio dedicado a explorar cómo un modelo avanzado de IA híbrido, el InceptionTime-Gated Transformer, puede identificar y clasificar fallos en transformadores de potencia dentro de un entorno de simulación en tiempo real. Durante la sesión, se examinará el proceso de recopilación de datos a partir de un modelo de red eléctrica de alta tensión compuesto por un generador síncrono, un transformador de potencia y una carga. Este modelo permite recrear varios escenarios de fallos, para entrenar y probar el modelo de IA. Además, discutiremos el proceso de implementación del modelo de IA en una plataforma EDGE con simulación en bucle cerrado (Hardware-in-the-Loop RTDS Technologies Inc.) utilizando mensajes de IEC61850 Sampled-Values. Durante el seminario se ofrecerá una visión completa del dise?o y la funcionalidad del modelo de IA híbrido y su potencial para avanzar en la mejora del sistema de protección en situaciones de mayor complejidad en el sistema eléctrico. I am happy to share our recent article, "?? ?????????? ???????????????? ???? ?????????????????? ?????? ???????????????? ????????-???????? ?????????????? ?????????????? ???? ?????????????????? ???????????? ?????????????????? ?????????? ??????????????," published in IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy. This article has been co-authored by Prof. Zakir Hussain Rather. This work emphasizes the importance of the calculation of minimum inertia of power system areas when there is non-uniform distribution of inertia due to rapid integration of renewable power plants concentrating in some specific areas. The paper proposes a method of redistributing the inertia from high-inertia areas to low-inertia areas using inertia corridors to reduce the non-uniformity of inertia distribution in the power system. Additionally, a ML-based approach has been proposed to optimally find out the location and size of synchronous inertia compensators such as synchronous condensers or GFM-interfaced BESS to be installed to maintain minimum inertia in the areas having inertia shortfall.
