  • ?? Congratulations to Fei Huang, Hsing-Yen Tsai, Chi-Yu Huang, Yu-Chun Luo, Ching-Ho Li, Shao-Chang Huang, Yi-Hsiang Kao, Ke-Horng Chen, Kuo-Lin Zheng, Ying-Hsi Lin, Shian-Ru Lin, Tsung-Yen Tsai from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Chip GaN Power Semiconductor & Realtek Semiconductor Corp. for receiving the 2023 Takuo Sugano Award for outstanding Far-East paper! Their work, titled "3D Wireless Power Transfer with Noise Cancellation Technique for ?62dB Noise Suppression and 90.1% Efficiency", presents a novel three-dimensional wireless power transfer (3D WPT) system designed to overcome spatial limitations inherent in traditional single-coil transmitters. By employing a central controller to manage three orthogonal transmitter coils, the system maintains efficient energy transfer regardless of the receiver's orientation. The central controller dynamically adjusts power distribution based on real-time coupling factor detection, ensuring high efficiency. Additionally, an advanced noise cancellation technique enhances communication between the transmitter and receiver, reducing interference. The results demonstrate a peak efficiency of 90.1% and a maximum output power of 40W per transmitter, with the ability to deliver up to 69W when leveraging all three transmitters, significantly improving the flexibility and reliability of wireless power transfer in 3D space. • ?? Congratulations to Simone Mattia Dartizio, Francesco Tesolin, Giacomo Castoro, Francesco Bruccoleri, Luca Lanzoni, Michele Rossoni, Dmytro Cherniak, Luca Bertulessi, Carlo Samori, Andrea L. Lacaita, Salvatore Levantino from Politecnico di Milano & Infineon Technologies for receiving the 2023 Jan Van Vessem Award for Outstanding European Paper! Their work, titled "A 76.7fs-lntegrated-Jitter and ?71.9dBc In-Band Fractional-Spur Bang-Bang Digital PLL Based on an Inverse-Constant-Slope DTC and FCW Subtractive Dithering", presents two-solutions to reduce the fractional spurs caused by the non-linearity of the digital-to-time converter (DTC). First, the inverse-constant-slope DTC achieves high-linearity, thanks to its immunity to channel-length modulation and non-linear parasitic capacitances. Second, the frequency-control-word (FCW) subtractive dithering technique randomizes the quantization error of the 16 modulator driving the PLL divider ratio without requiring an increased DTC dynamic range and pushing the fractional spurs outside the PLL bandwidth. The prototype, implemented in a 28-nm CMOS process, has an active area of 0.33 mm2 and dissipates 17.2 mW. At fractional-N channels near 9.25 GHz, the measured in-band fractional spurs and the rms jitter are below ?70 dBc and 77 fs, respectively, leading to a jitter-power figure of merit of ?249.9 dB.
