Hi everyone, We are organizing a workshop on ``Robot Safety under Uncertainty from “Intangible” Specifications" (https://lnkd.in/guQJ9GZD) at the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) 2025!?We have nice clean results in control theory for guaranteeing safety and stability when objectives and constraints are given as known differentiable functions and there is no uncertainty or disturbances. Our workshop will explore how to capture safety requirements in less clean settings, e.g., from natural language, semantic concepts, observed in sensor data anomalies, or inferred from demonstrations and prior experience. See Shumon Koga's post for details! We are inviting contributed papers and are looking forward to seeing you at ICRA 2025!
?? Call: ICRA 2025 Workshop on Robot Safety under Uncertainty from “Intangible” Specifications We are excited to announce the?ICRA 2025 Workshop on Robot Safety under Uncertainty from “Intangible” Specifications! The goal of the workshop is to inspire the robotics community to?investigate the concept and formulation of “intangible” safety constraints, which may?not be specified explicitly as mathematical expressions but through natural language, semantic concepts, observed?in?sensor data anomalies, or inferred from demonstrations and prior experience.?The?workshop is interested in various facets of?techniques for identifying and imposing such safety constraints?including: identification of safety constraints from demonstration, compatibility of learned constraints and control design methodology, interaction with humans or vision-language models for safety information, and associated uncertainty quantification. ? Call for Papers & Junior Researcher Talks We invite researchers to submit 2-4 page papers?for the poster session / 1-2 page extended abstracts for the junior researcher talk. ???Important Dates: Submission deadline?– April 15th Acceptance notifications?– May 3rd Workshop date?– May 19th ?? ?Details: https://lnkd.in/g8-5Dgck Organizers: Vikas Dhiman, Shumon Koga, Pio Ong, Yiwei Lyu, Dimitra Panagou, Nikolay Atanasov #ICRA2025 #Robotics #Safety #Uncertainty

Calling all researchers in the field of Computer Vision or Wearable Robotics! We are excited to announce our upcoming workshop on Friday, May 23 at the 2025 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) in Atlanta, GA on “Enhancing human mobility: From computer vision-based motion tracking to wearable assistive robot control” Soyong Shin Enrica Tricomi Daekyum (David) Kim Letizia Gionfrida We have a fantastic lineup of seminar speakers, along with a panel discussion featuring senior and junior researchers as well as industry representatives from both fields. The event will showcase live demonstrations of both industry-grade and research-grade technologies, including computer vision-based human pose tracking Meshcapade and a state-of-the-art robotic exoskeleton Skip. We invite junior researchers to submit a short abstract for participation in either a poster session or lightning talks. The best presenter in each category (CV and WR) will be awarded monetary prizes, sponsored by the RAS Technical Committee on Computer Vision and Wearable Robotics. We are now accepting abstract submissions through the workshop webpage (deadline April 6): Submission Link: https://lnkd.in/enDyPzqK Workshop Info: https://lnkd.in/ePvAbzwK Abstract: As wearable robotic devices for human movement assistance and rehabilitation become a translatable technology to the real world, the system’s ability to autonomously and seamlessly adapt to varying environmental conditions and user needs is crucial. Lower-limb exoskeletons and prostheses, for instance, must dynamically adjust their assistance profiles to accommodate different motor activities, such as level-ground walking or stair climbing. To achieve this, it is essential not only to recognize user intentions but also to gather comprehensive information about the surroundings. Computer vision offers rich, direct, and interpretable data that surpasses non-visual sensors like encoders and inertial measurement units, making it a promising tool for enhancing context awareness in wearable robots. However, integrating computer vision into wearable robotic control poses several challenges, including ensuring the real-time feasibility of vision model outputs, maintaining model robustness in diverse mobility contexts and dynamic user movements, and effectively fusing onboard sensor data with visual information. This workshop aims to address these challenges by exploring the latest engineering solutions for computer vision-based human motion tracking and control strategies for wearable robotic systems designed to augment human locomotion. By bridging the gap between researchers in wearable robotics and computer vision, as well as between academia and industry, we seek to provide a roadmap for developing robust, adaptable, and context-aware vision-based control frameworks that can be effectively translated from the lab to real-world applications.

I am excited to announce the upcoming workshop entitled “State of the Art in Lower-Limb Exoskeletons: Exploring Specificity vs. Generalizability Across Users and Activities,” to be held on Monday, May 19 at the 2025 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) in Atlanta, GA (co-organized with Aaron Young and Tommaso Lenzi). https://lnkd.in/gb8reh8U Emerging robotic exoskeletons have the potential to enhance performance of non-disabled users, restore normative leg biomechanics to impaired users, or rehabilitate limb function after neurological disorders. While parallel industries are providing powerful, lightweight, and inexpensive motors with long-lasting batteries, the exoskeleton research community is now largely focused on mechanical design, interface, and control challenges. One body of work has shown that human walking effort can be reduced by customizing the assistance torque pattern to the user for a given activity through human-in-the-loop optimization. While some results have extended outside the lab, it is unclear how to quickly generalize these methods across many users and activities. Another body of work has shown that task-agnostic control methods can handle a continuous range of activities without user-specific calibration, for example, predicting human joint torques across activities to reduce muscle effort or metabolic cost. However, it is unclear how these versatile control methods can be personalized for optimal assistance, especially for clinical patients. This workshop will explore specificity vs. generalizability across users and activities with the goal of finding benefits from both perspectives. This theme will be discussed as it relates to both control and device hardware optimization. The workshop will feature invited talks by established and junior investigators in the field as well as live demonstrations of robotic exoskeletons. For the first time, the top research-grade lower-limb exoskeletons will be in the same room for side-by-side comparisons. The audience will freely interact with the demos to get hands-on experience with leading technology, including trying out devices/controllers. There will be a simultaneous poster session for young and new researchers in the field to present their current work. The unique mix of talks, panels, demos, and posters will allow both established and new researchers to experience firsthand where the field is today and what challenges lie ahead. We are now accepting poster and demo contributions through the workshop webpage (deadline March 31): https://lnkd.in/gb8reh8U
