The IDSA Kansas City (KC) Chapter serves the networking and professional development needs of industrial designers in Kansas City, Kansas and surrounding areas including Missouri. Some of the activities and events that Kansas City Chapter has produced include lectures, studio tours, and collaborations with other professional design organizations. As a member of the Center for Architecture and Design, a unique organization to Kansas City, IDSA has a direct connection to and part of the pulse of design in the city – through KC Design Week, Student Careers Day, Cocktails & Conversations, and a wide variety of other events. IDSA Kansas City also supports design students in the area, including Kansas State University, the University of Kansas, and Kansas City Art Institute. We encourage a strong partnership between the student chapters and the professional chapter that includes portfolio reviews, career development, and social events.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! As one of the 7 member organizations of the Center for Architecture & Design in Kansas City, IDSA KC is part of hosting a fantastic design experience to?20 middle school students attending the KSU?Explore Design and Architecture?summer program. A few key details: - It’s at Johnson County Community College?July 8-10, 1pm-4pm each day. - The students will develop designs for a new baseball stadium (timely)! - The Senior Director from the Kansas City Royals Hall of Fame, Curt Nelson, is one of the jurors. Here's where you come in, we need at least 2 volunteers PER DAY with a time commitment of 1pm to 4pm for those days. I am delighted to reflect on the success of the inaugural D7 Summit, held last week in Kansas City. Under the astute leadership of Dawn Taylor and the teams at KC Global Design and the KC Center for Architecture and Design, this summit set a new standard in collaborative discourse and leadership in design. It was a privilege to represent our SEGD community and join forces with distinguished leaders Lakisha Ann Woods, CAE, The American Institute of Architects (AIA); Cheryl Durst, Hon. FIIDA International Interior Design Association; Torey Carter-Conneen, CAE, American Society of Landscape Architects; Donté P. Shannon, FASAE, CAE, Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA); Cesar Rivera, AIGA Design, and Joel Albizo, FASAE, CAE of American Planning Association. Each contributed profoundly to our explorations of how design can enhance and transform human experiences. The D7 Summit has effectively highlighted the collective commitment and leadership of the design community, reinforcing our mission to advance the profession and impact global challenges through design. I look forward to fostering the connections made and the insights gained as we continue to drive our profession forward collectively. I would also like to extend special appreciation to Anne Quito, whose eloquence and expertise in moderating our panel discussions were instrumental in underscoring the vital role of design in society today. As a leader of a non-profit organization, I know what it takes to produce an event like this and so I want to share my appreciation to the event sponsors, DLR Group, HDR, and Steelcase, whose support I'm sure helped to facilitate this landmark event.
