Redefining Education in Alabama — Meet I Dream Big Academy Charter School Co-founded by 2022 Tiny Fellowship alum Dr. Angela Lang, the I Dream Big Academy Charter School (IDBA) is dedicated to providing student-centered, real-world learning experiences in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. With a mission to connect students’ passions to purposeful careers, IDBA fosters academic excellence while supporting the whole child, equipping them to positively impact their communities. What started as the I Dream Big Summer Academy in 2012 has grown from 15 students to nearly 200 students across multiple locations. IDBA’s approach prioritizes project-based learning, mentorship, and individualized learning, empowering students to build critical thinking and problem-solving skills that pave the way to college and career success. Due to the summer program’s strong outcomes, IDBA has evolved into a year-round charter school model, soon partnering with Alabama’s first HBCU-charter school opening in Fall 2025. Through the 4.0 Tiny Fellowship, Dr. Lang received essential funding, mentorship, and peer support to refine IDBA’s curriculum and build a framework centered on culturally responsive teaching and identity-based education. 4.0’s guidance has helped shape IDBA into a model for educational equity, preparing students to become changemakers in their communities.
