    Good ROAS Can Hide Bad Strategy. Story time: A brand we engaged with was seeing 30% year-over-year growth on Amazon. ROAS was a healthy 4.5, and they were celebrating their success. But when we dug deeper, we found that their category was actually growing at 60% year-over-year. Despite positive growth, they were rapidly losing market share. Here was the issue: ?? Over 70% of their ad budget was focused on branded terms, boosting ROAS but doing nothing to capture NEW customers. By shifting part of their ad budget to strategic category terms, they quickly began recovering market share.     Amazon charges a hidden “tax” on your margins. Hidden Tax #1: Amazon blocks you from implementing a price increase on Vendor Central. Scenario: 1. Your costs to produce the goods go up, but Amazon’s price doesn’t wholesale or POS selling price doesn't: ?? Margins disappear 2. Amazon Price Matches another obscure sales channel and it craps out which leads to losing Buy Box. ?? Market share starts to plummet The worst part is: You don’t see it coming. We recently worked with a home appliance brand that saw their contribution margins shrink from healthy double-digits to nearly break-even over 18 months. When we analyzed their P&L at the product level, we discovered: 1. Amazon's co-op fees had been continuously increasing over the past couple of years 2. POS retail price had been flat, not reflecting rising production costs. ?? For 14% of their catalog, they were actually selling at a loss without realizing it. We implemented product-level profitability tracking and helped them identify the 20 SKUs that needed immediate wholesale price adjustments or a modified go-to-market strategy on Amazon Brands with airtight omnichannel pricing and catalog ops survive.
