Day 2 *All About Youth Inclusion, Innovation and Equity* Today our Team Leader, Dr Geoffrey Nyamota (PhD) Nyamota, joined a panel discussion on youth inclusion, innovation, and equity. He shared inspiring examples of youth-led initiatives that have driven economic growth and resilience. He also explained how iDE deliberately conducts assessments, builds their financial, business and technological capacity. One such example is the success story of Benard Ouma, an iDE-powered entrepreneur whose Facebook page, Bernoch Enterprise, showcases the transformative power of digital innovation in rural entrepreneurship. By equipping young entrepreneurs with business, financial, and technological skills, we empower them to sell their products and services effectively. The conversion of business and financial skills to sell services and products is revolutionary for the youth, and using successful youth entrepreneurs to mentor and coach others leads to instant sustainable results. Our discussions also highlighted the importance of gender-transformational initiatives in agriculture. Leading women entrepreneurs, Margaret Komen MD Mace Foods, and Eunice Mutua, MD Select Fresh Produce Kenya Ltd shared valuable insights on how they've navigated their businesses while fostering inclusivity for women and youth. By empowering young people and women, we can create a more equitable and prosperous?future. Bountifield International is now iDE Kenya! iDE is a global development organization that co-creates with foundations, governments, individuals, for-profits, and nonprofits to develop lasting solutions to poverty. With over 40 years of experience, we design and deliver market-based solutions that power entrepreneurs to end poverty. iDE Kenya cultivates entrepreneurs, powering them to lead their communities in building resilient and transformative food systems. Through a one-to-many approach, these entrepreneurs develop agricultural support businesses in which they provide small-scale farmers with essential services, mechanization and access to markets. By creating opportunities to process, save, and sell more food, these entrepreneurs are creating jobs, increasing incomes, reducing food loss, strengthening food security and improving livelihoods of their communities.

Despite being a nutritious and indigenous crop, farmers in Kenya are often hesitant to grow or expand their production of sorghum because it is difficult to harvest and process. However, with the increasing need for climate change adaptation, sorghum is resilient to various conditions, temperatures, and soils, making it an ideal crop for farmers to grow. As an agro-business owner, Marlone Awillie saw how farmers suffered from high postharvest losses and low-quality crops resulting from breakages and spillage and found this as an opportunity to provide his clients with sorghum processing services. With his motorized thresher, Marlone has been able to help farmers reduce losses and improve the output of clean, high-quality grain. As a result, he has seen more farmers return to farming sorghum since they are no longer afraid or worried about how they will process the crop after harvest. Between his various agricultural services and business marketing efforts, Marlone has built a robust and trusted brand for his business, Bukiri Farmers Service Centre. The center supports farmers in Busia County and beyond, aiming to improve their output and increase the availability of nutritious food in the market. “My business helps farmers to prevent losses and avoid complications. I guide them with land preparation, certified seeds, pest control, and crop processing to ensure they have a good harvest.” Subscribe to iDE (International Development Enterprises)’s email list today to hear more stories of entrepreneurs from iDE programs around the world: https://bit.ly/4bu4zf2 #MSMEs #Entrepreneurs #ChangeNotCharity #Marketing #SkillsTraining

Being part of a global organization, we enjoy opportunities to interact, share knowledge, and collaborate with our colleagues from other countries. In the past few months we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming team members to Kenya from iDE Zambia and more recently iDE Ethiopia. During both visits, our teams shared insights, impact, challenges, and successes across our respective country programs. A key highlight from these visits was sharing learnings and activities of engaging with women entrepreneurs. Both teams visited with some of?iDE Kenya’s women entrepreneurs in the field where our colleagues had the opportunity to see how these women have built successful agricultural businesses and the skills they've developed from training in technical operation, business strategy and digital marketing. As iDE (International Development Enterprises) recently launched a new 10-year global strategy to power one million women entrepreneurs around the world, these learnings shared across our country programs are helpful and eye-opening as we develop our own strategies to further engage and support the growth of women entrepreneurs in Kenya and beyond. #teamwork #collaboration? #iDEEthiopia? #iDEZambia? #PoweringWomen? #WomenEntrepreneurs

We believe markets are the most powerful tool for creating prosperity, building resilience, and ultimately ending poverty. In Kenya, iDE partners with agricultural entrepreneurs to support the growth of businesses that serve smallholder farmers in their communities. We partner with entrepreneurs to: ?? Create access to postharvest and value-add mechanization and provide hands-on training for safe operation, maintenance and food safety best practices. ?? Identify opportunities for producing nutritional products to increase the availability of nutrient-rich food in the local market. ?? Share knowledge on how to effectively operate a business including financial management, record keeping, and customer service best practices. ?? Support the strengthening of business branding with formal registration, logo design, and developing digital marketing skills so they can reach more customers and expand their client base. When we power an entrepreneur, they power their communities to drive prosperity and create sustainable lasting change. This is what we mean when we say we power entrepreneurs to end poverty. Last month, iDE Kenya’s Team Leader, Geoffrey Nyamota (PhD) and iDE’s Director of Women’s Entrepreneurship and Global Business Development, Alexandra Spieldoch were invited by the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University to participate in the webinar: “How Innovations in the Food Sector Are Used to Create More Inclusive and Sustainable Food Systems.” This unique session spotlighted real stories of food producers from across the globe, showcasing how innovation and entrepreneurship are driving resilience in communities both locally and internationally. Representing our Kenya program, Geoffrey shared the importance of creating access to appropriate technologies and services for farmers that would encourage them to grow drought-resilient crops to build resilience to climate change. “Products like sorghum, green gram, pigeon peas; crops that will work in areas where there is minimal amount of rain and minimal amount of nutrition from the soils to actually work. So making available appropriate technologies in those particular areas, makes it possible for those farmers to become more resilient when they engage in the production of crops that are consistent with their climatic conditions.” Watch the webinar to hear more insights from Kenya and other Global programs presented by this expert group of panelists. https://lnkd.in/gm4gJZRh
