Over the past two weeks, #COP29 in Baku (Azerbaijan) has been a global stage for critical discussions on the future of our planet. At #COP29, together with other multilateral development banks (#MDBs), we launched a new publication highlighting the transformative power of circular economy investments to increase climate action. During the panel “Working Together to Unlock Investments in Circular Economy Around the World” today in Baku, @MilagrosRivas, #IDBInvest Division Chief of Advisory Services, emphasized the role of the private sector in driving innovation, creating job opportunities and lowering carbon emissions through circular economy investments. The new report showcases 20 circular economy projects in areas such as plastics, textiles, food and electronic waste. These provide a snapshot of MDB’s support to the circular economy spanning advisory services, financial support to governments and private-sector investments. By rethinking how we use resources, we can create a more resilient and inclusive future. Empowering Green Growth and SMEs in El Salvador ???? We are proud to announce that IDB Invest has partnered with Davivienda El Salvador to strengthen green and SME lending. Through a mobilization conducted with Santander and as part of our “Originate to Share” strategy, we have provided a $50 million loan to Davivienda El Salvador. This disbursement complements an initial $50 million loan signed in 2020, which was fully funded by IDB Invest. With this partnership, we’re enhancing Davivienda El Salvador’s capacity to expand green financing for renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, while supporting the growth of its SME portfolio. ?? Regenerative agriculture isn’t just an option—it’s the best path forward to make food systems part of the solution. By limiting global heating to 1.5 degrees, protecting biodiversity, adapting to climate change, and fostering soil health and productivity, we can create a sustainable future. Key to this approach is using traditional knowledge and integrating local communities, partners, and beneficiaries of regenerative businesses. To support this, we need a comprehensive toolbox of financial instruments, including blended finance, research grants, carbon credits, and biodiversity credits. Additionally, favorable regulatory conditions are essential for creating and scaling regenerative businesses.
