Together we are building STEM communities! Idaho STEM Ecosystem hub coordinator Sonya Haines was thrilled to attend the Construction Expo led by Twin Falls School District and Magic Valley Builders Association. Over 80 teens from across Idaho participated in the fantastic event receiving essential tools like swag T - shirt, gloves, hard hat, safety glasses and more. The highlight was watching these young minds build sheds while learning, hands-on construction trade skills at workstations set up by local industry partners. It was incredible to see the collaboration enthusiasm among the volunteer sponsors, educators, and industry mentors who made this event possible for Idaho youth. Events these are crucial for fostering a strong STEM workforce and inspiring the next generation of leaders. Women continue to be underrepresented in the STEM workforce.?Gender gaps?in education pathways persist, limiting access, preparation, and career opportunities. Now, new barriers and changes to the current landscape have left girl-serving programs wondering what the future of support for girls and women in STEM will be. Lights, camera, action! Today I was interviewed for a documentary about the Idaho STEM Ecosystems. I was asked to share about 2 things I’m passionate about- access to STEM opportunities in rural communities and making sure kids of ALL ages have STEM experiences.
