The sustainability conversation continues at this year's ADPI/ABI Annual Conference! Those familiar with dairy already know that most of our industry’s gains on the emission of greenhouse gases are found on the farm. Where the farmer’s work concludes, the processing factories take over. Today’s dairy processors operate complex, but energy-efficient facilities designed from the ground up to contribute as little as possible to the total carbon footprint that accompanies the incoming milk. But with several different products all under one roof in the processing plant, how do processors allocate that complete carbon footprint across each separate product, leaving nothing on the table but at the same time avoiding double counting? Join us in April to hear from Paul Myer of Athian present on the necessarily rigorous verification and certification of GHG reductions on the farm, and how the insetting of the associated carbon credits helps to keep carbon gains within the dairy value chain, delivering bottom-line value. Then Jessie Deelo of The Climate Source, Jeremy Pike of Idaho Milk Products, and Sarah Michalek of Michigan Milk Producers Association will explain how carbon footprint values for the incoming milk are logged at the plant gate and distributed accurately and easily across the range of the facility’s many product outputs, all with the same rigorous accountability, based on industry case studies. ??
