Interior Architecture and Design Department at Florida State University

And that’s a wrap on Career Fair Week! ?? But before we close, let’s take a look at the final moments of last Thursday. Thursday morning at the Department of Interior Architecture & Design (IAD) featured Emerging Alumni Award winner Abby Eckard, NCIDQ , LEED Green Associate , Senior Interior Designer at //3877, and David Shove-Brown , Partner at //3877, working with students in Studio V as guest critics for the schematic design phase of students’ initial space planning efforts for public areas in their hotel proposals. The studio’s hotel project, just under 170,000sf of public spaces, back-of-house areas, and guest floors, roots itself in the culture, context, and community of international locations around the world. Abby and Dave worked in three, 45-minute intensive group critiques, and the energy and vibe generated in the studio was palpable from wall to wall. Thursday afternoon, the department’s Advisory Council convened for its annual spring meeting. Department Chair Jim Dawkins presented an update of the department’s busy winter/spring activities and initiatives while Jessica Sadowski Comas, MFA, CFRE, Senior Director of Development, followed with an overview of IAD and CFA foundation and advancement programs. Seka Collins, IIDA, EDAC , Senior Interior Designer at kasper architects + associates and Advisory Council Chair, finished the meeting off with membership items and old and new business. Thursday evening was capped off with IAD’s annual Alumni Awards, presented by Dr. Yelena McLane. Abby Eckard, NCIDQ , LEED Green Associate , Senior Interior Designer at //3877 earned the Emerging Alumni Award, Karen Hansen, CEO & Creative Director of the ID Collaborative, Inc. took home the Distinguished Alumni Award, and Giselle Newman AAIA,RID, Senior Director at Hendrick, received the Distinguished Service Award. Members of the Department Advisory Council and the Dean’s Advisory Council hosted the award winners at a dinner later in the evening.?

BREAKING GROUND ON A HEALTHIER FUTURE: The Seven Pines community of Jacksonville will soon welcome a new Baptist HealthPlace campus! Baptist HealthPlace at Seven Pines will feature two state-of-the-art medical office buildings. The first building will house a new Baptist Primary Care practice, with offices for family medicine and internal medicine physicians, plus offices for cardiologists with Baptist Heart Specialists. It will also feature a wellness center offering health and wellness resources and programs, such as wellness coaching, educational classes on preventive health care and talks with physicians and other local health experts. Plans for the second medical office building include a potential ambulatory surgery center with imaging and laboratory services, designed with the flexibility to expand and adapt as the community’s health care needs evolve. “With the capacity to expand services over time, Baptist HealthPlace at Seven Pines is an investment in the long-term health and well-being of this community,” said Michael A. Mayo, DHA, FACHE, president and CEO of Baptist Health. “This approach underscores Baptist Health’s dedication to providing easy access to the exceptional care Jacksonville’s residents so rightly deserve.” The campus is located near Butler Boulevard and I-295, just east of St. Johns Town Center, within the master-planned community of Seven Pines. Situated between Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Baptist Medical Center South and Baptist Medical Center Beaches, and just down the road from Baptist & Wolfson Town Center Emergency Room, Baptist HealthPlace at Seven Pines is ideally positioned to function as a central outpatient hub for residents in need of both preventive health care and services to manage ongoing medical conditions. Baptist Health recently broke ground on the new center, which is expected to open in spring 2026: https://lnkd.in/eTRAkx9E #BaptistProud

What a true honor it was to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award from FSU Interior Architecture and Design. Sharing my personal and professional journey with the students, Advisory Council, and alumni on Thursday evening brought back so many memories of my time at Florida State University. I was so grateful to share that experience with such a gracious and kind audience. It filled my heart in ways I hadn’t imagined. On Friday, I shared a stage with two very impressive women (Carolyn Blake representing Gresham Smith and Abby Eckard, NCIDQ , LEED Green Associate representing //3877) each of us on different journeys, united by shared professional values and similar philosophies. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible (Yelena McLane, Kelley Robinson, Jim Dawkins, @samanthabuxbaum and Jessica Sadowski Comas, MFA, CFRE). This experience is one I will never forget. ???? #GoNoles
