Leading the way in innovative construction methods, we're building new homes and rebuilding community at Clarendon Hill, utilizing a first-of-it's-kind steel and concrete modular system for high-rise construction. The design vision grew out of an extensive community process, and includes a range of housing scales and types, arrayed around a central park. Check out the video to see progress!
See what life is like on the site of Clarendon Hill in #Somerville, one of New England's first ever #modular high-rises by POAH Communities and ICON Architecture. In this video short, the DB|JKS team breaks down what goes into stacking the steel-framed units, fabricated by Lab 9 Modular and its partner Daiwa House Modular Europe, that will comprise this 9-story structure. With 168 apartments, this new and improved building at Clarendon Hill will provide housing for all previous residents and more to come. For more project details & additional #construction photos, visit: https://bit.ly/3QrrZI6 Thank you to our project team George Husson, Dan Cambria, and Bill Mathisen, CHST for their insight in this clip! #DellbrookJKS

We're thrilled to move into the construction phase for Cheney Homes! This new affordable apartment building is designed to keep operational energy costs low, and enable seniors to stay in the community.
MHIC is excited to announce the closing of Cheney Homes, a project led by Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation (JPNDC) to address the critical need for affordable senior housing in Jamaica Plain. With $13.9 million in LIHTC equity from our Social Impact Fund, $2 million in loan participation with Eastern Bank, and $500,000 from our Capital Magnet Fund, we are investing in a future where seniors can age in place within their community. Cheney Homes will offer 48 affordable apartments, along with a dedicated facility that provides essential resources and PACE support, fostering a welcoming environment for all residents. This project goes beyond housing; it’s about strengthening an economically diverse, resilient community where seniors thrive and contribute to the rich fabric of Jamaica Plain. A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated team members who made this vision a reality. #AffordableHousing #SeniorLiving #CommunityDevelopment #HousingForAll #SocialImpact #InclusiveCommunities #LIHTC #JPNDC #CapitalMagnetFund #EasternBank #AgingInPlace #EconomicallyDiverse #NonprofitFinancing #CDFI #EquitableHousing #CommunityFinance #ImpactInvestment #SocialEquity #AffordableLiving #NeighborhoodDevelopment #FinancialInclusion #CommunityInvestment #ElderCareHousing #ResilientCommunities #SustainableCommunities #HousingJustice #EmpoweredCommunities

Earlier this week ICON was honored to join Hebrew SeniorLife, the Affordable Housing network of supporters, and all of Simon C. Fireman to celebrate the completion of the 45-unit, Passive House Certified expansion and the community’s 40th anniversary. This follows the modernization upgrades in the original 160 units completed in 2020.?With this re-energized home, Simon C. Fireman can continue to serve its elders with Right Care, Right Place, and Right Time, focused on the link between housing and healthcare. The project successfully increases density on an existing occupied site while preserving the character and charm of its original shingle-style massing. Physical new connections are made from dead end corridors to a variety of new amenity spaces supporting new friendship bonds and social connections. #ICONArchitecture #PassiveHouse #AffordableHousing
