#PolicyInsights ?? Labour shortages have doubled over the past decade in the European Union, yet non-EU nationals in Europe remain under-represented in key sectors. Europe’s economic, social, and political diversity can be reframed as a strategic advantage, enabling better alignment between non-EU nationals' preferences, profiles, and receiving communities. Stakeholders at all levels could consider holistic, data-driven approaches to optimise matches for employers, candidates, and their families. ?? In the latest #PolicyInsights commentary, Craig Damian Smith, PhD and Radboud Reijn from Pairity examine how algorithmic matching, extending beyond just skills, can improve the retention of international talent, reduce barriers for employers, and expand destination choices across Europe. ?? The Migration Podcast ??? Three years ago the EU activated Temporary Protection for Ukrainians, providing millions of people fleeing Russian aggression with safety and legal residence in the EU. ?? The EU Temporary Protection (TP) for Ukrainians was activated to offer immediate assistance and allow displaced persons from Ukraine to reside in the EU. It was extended last year, until March 2026. The question regarding Ukrainians' settlement in Europe remains unresolved, due to their temporary legal status and the uncertainty surrounding war predictions, particularly in light of recent diplomatic tensions.?Violeta Wagner highlighted this: ?? For [Ukrainian] people, psychologically, it is probably difficult to plan for the future knowing that they will stay in a country for one year but then don't know what happens [next]. ??? In the latest ICMPD Migration Podcast, Wagner Violeta , ICMPD's Regional Portfolio Manager for the Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA), and Magda Sabadello, Project Officer for the EECA region, discuss the current situation in Ukraine and how ICMPD continues to engage with both the Ukrainian people and their host countries. ??
