Me & My Family Night: Celebrating Black History Month at ICAN Adams! ???????? Families came together for a meaningful evening of learning, connection, and fun! From engaging games and crafts to books to take home, the night was all about celebrating history, culture, and togetherness. Over a shared meal, a few of our incredible youth proudly presented reports on African American activists who have shaped history. ???? A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and to our amazing volunteers from the Mesa Public Library and East Valley Institute of Technology students, for helping make the evening so special. At ICAN, we witness the power of education to transform lives, as seen through Yesenia’s incredible journey. Yesenia and her two siblings have been part of ICAN for years. Initially shy and struggling with reading comprehension, Yesenia rarely participated in class discussions. With the support of our one-on-one tutoring program and a dedicated ICAN Hartford volunteer who works with her twice a week, Yesenia’s confidence and skills have soared! Recently, Yesenia volunteered to read aloud in class—a moment of pride and accomplishment that left her beaming! Today, she is more outgoing, self-assured, and eager to embrace new challenges. Because of our work in education, we were selected as an MC2026 grant recipient. We’re excited to use this grant to create Mighty Change in education. Together, we’re paving the way for brighter futures for Yesenia, her peers, and so many other youth in our community.
