Children sharing their expert stories to help improve pediatric healthcare, technology, science, research, and advocacy.
关于我们
iCAN Research is a worldwide consortium of Children’s Advisory Groups working together to provide a voice for children and families in health, medicine, research, and innovation, through synergy, communication and collaboration. iCAN’s Chapters work both locally in partnerships with their local children’s hospitals and communities, and collaborate together network-wide to have a global impact. Through our chapters, youth-led councils, committees and focus groups, we address needs of paediatric clinical research and healthcare, influence state and federal regulations, and advocate for paediatric patients across the globe. Our goal is to educate the world about the importance of children’s involvement in the development of research trials, and to provide our children and families with resources and opportunities to provide their feedback and input into studies and products intended for children.

We can’t share enough about how much we love Jumo Health !
The energy at last week’s Patients as Partners conference was undeniable! More than ever, there’s a growing urgency to not just include patient voices—but to empower them to help shape the future of clinical trials. Our very own Kristin Tolbert sat on a strategic panel that tackled what true patient inclusion in clinical trials looks like—from measuring impact and easing financial burdens to building lasting trust and creating culturally relevant materials. Key takeaways? ?? 85% of patients want clear, accessible info, yet access remains limited. ?? There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to trial participation. ???????? Families, especially siblings, carry unseen burdens that deserve recognition. The team (Jules Rinaldi, Rick Scorzetti, Triparna Ghosh-Choudhury, PhD) left feeling inspired and more motivated than ever to keep driving patient-centered progress in clinical research! #PatientsasPartners2025

iCAN's Director of Operations, Abigail Rose Clark, attended this year's #PatientsAsPartners2025 and gleaned some amazing insights! She also met up with a number of iCAN's friends! We are so excited to see all of the amazing work being done to put patients first. #iCANMakeADifference.
What to say about #PatientsAsPartners2025? As a first time attendee, I was truly blown away by the passion for and dedication to patient centricity that was demonstrated over the three days of the conference. Learning from the amazing professionals in the room was invigorating, and I leave Boston with renewed hope and excitement for all that will come in the healthcare space. Some key conference moments for me are unpacked below: - "Patient inclusion is not a rescue strategy"(Stacy Hurt ??), By including the patient voice from the start, projects are better suited and more aligned with the needs of patients and families. The patient voice supports meaningful change best when included from the very beginning and should not be incorporated after a project is struggling. - "Patients that we not only consult with but innovate with." (Liselotte Hyveled ??) This strong call to action demonstrates that inclusion of the patient doesn't just mean a high level consultation, but that true change happens when the leaders of healthcare innovate with patients. By utilizing the power of co-creation, not only is there a demonstrated return on investment, but also a marked increase in future patient engagement. - "Patients are hirable." (Catherine A.), At iCAN we say that pediatric patients are experts in their own conditions, and we wholeheartedly believe that to be true! Patients should be thought of as collaborators in the effort to develop any product that is built to support them as they walk their healthcare journeys. It was a true pleasure seeing friends of iCAN (International Children's Advisory Network) in person. Gwyneth Mogg-Hall, Pamela Wheeler Johnson, MPH, CCRC, Stephanie Christopher, Jules Rinaldi, Kristin Tolbert, Diana Fisher, MS, MPH, CPH, Jade Dennis, Aaron J. Horowitz, Joel Schwartz, Lindsey Thalheimer, Hayley Chapman, Sylvia Baedorf Kassis, MPH, CYT are a just some of the few incredible individuals who are pouring their hearts and talents into making the world of pediatric healthcare better for all. Thank you Patients As Partners in Clinical Research Community News for a wonderful conference!

Where Are They at Wednesday?? Adhiti’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring!? As a youth member of KIDS Connecticut, she first took the stage as a panelist at the Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) conference, participating in the "Baby Shark Tank: PTN and MPRINT Hub Investigators Pitch Solutions for Issues in Maternal and Pediatric Care" panel. She shared her insights and passion for improving pediatric research. Then, she joined us at the 2024 iCAN Summit in Bari, continuing to grow as a leader in the space by sharing her voice with industry leaders and helping to?transform the future of the pediatric landscape. Now, she’s taking her next big step—she recently interviewed for the Duke STAR Program (huge shoutout to Phyllis (Phyllis Kennel, MS, RD, LDN, PMP)), an elite summer research program that provides hands-on experience for students and educators. Here she is, pictured with Phyllis, her dad, and her mom. We are so proud of how far she has come and can’t wait to see what she does next! Join us in cheering her on! #WhereAreTheyAtWednesday #KIDSConnecticut?#DukeSTAR #NextGenLeaders #STEM #PediatricResearch
