The International Association of Transportation Regulators (IATR) is a non-profit, professional association of government transportation officials.
Founded in 1989, the IATR is primarily an educational organization that shares information and best practices among a wide variety of government agencies that license, regulate and/or contract with for-hire ground transportation services.
These regulated industries include: taxicabs; micro-transit; micro-mobility; buses & motor coaches; black cars & limousines; paratransit & non-emergency medical transport; and Transportation Network Companies (TNCs).
IATR members are comprised of subdivisions of international and domestic cities, states & provinces, as well as federal & quasi-governmental entities, such as airports, departments of transportation and motor vehicles, planning agencies, public utilities commissions, and taxi commissions.
The IATR’s organizational motto and mission is “Multi-Modal Mobility Innovation For All!”, by furthering the principles of transportation equity (affordability & accessibility), sustainability, health and safety, technology innovation & automation, open public data, and sound multi-modal governance.

The International Association of Transportation Regulators (IATR) has released a new report on the benefits of software-based taximeters and taxi rate regulations. “Soft Meters & Differentiated Pricing: Steering Taxicabs into the Future” explores the evolution of the taximeter from a mechanical device connected to the vehicle’s transmission to today’s GPS-based mobile technology and delves into the technology’s many benefits. Soft meters, which operate from smartphone apps, also enable pricing methods that are different from those of a standard metered rate. IATR supports regulatory environments in which taxi trips may be priced according to metered rates, upfront pricing, or dynamic pricing, with safeguards to ensure consumer protections for taxis that are physically hailed in the street or at taxi stands (ranks) and those that are hailed electronically through an app or online (“e-hail”). https://conta.cc/3zzyYdQ
