Rise Above Violence
关于我们
Founded in 1982 as the New York Asian Women’s Center and renamed in 2017, Womankind works tirelessly to create a future where we Rise Above Violence and our communities can innovate towards collective well-being, restoration, and social justice. We use the multidimensionality of our Asian heritage to work alongside survivors of gender-based violence as they build a path to healing. All services are rooted in Womankind’s philosophy of supporting survivors’ rights to self-determination and self-sufficiency in building their futures (i.e., their own agency). Womankind is one of the largest Asian-focused domestic violence organizations in the United States and is a leader in providing innovative and award-winning multilingual and culturally-responsive services. Womankind offers a wide variety of services in 18+ Asian languages and dialects, including: a toll-free 24/7 multilingual helpline, safe and confidential emergency residences (shelters), counseling, family law and immigration legal assistance, wellness activities, creative arts therapy, support groups, and economic empowerment workshops.

This weekend, Apex for Youth hosted its annual Winter Soulstice, bringing together youth, families, and community partners to spotlight mental health awareness and emotional connection. ??? The day kicked off with a powerful youth speaker panel featuring Connie, Emma, and Bernice from MinKwon Center for Community Action, CACF: Coalition for Asian American Children and Families, and Garden of Hope. They shared insights on mental health, identity, and community, sparking conversations that resonated deeply with everyone. Attendees reflected on their personal strengths and support systems through interactive gallery walks and thought-provoking prompts like: ?? “What is one strength or positive thing you see in yourself or your community?” ??Hands-on activities brought the event to life! From creating mindful jars and emotional play dough to making phone charms and watercolor paintings, our amazing partners— Girls for Gender Equity (GGE), Sunnyside Community Services, Garden of Hope, Womankind, fka New York Asian Women's Center, and Charles B. Wang Community Health Center —turned self-care into a creative and collaborative experience. Winter Soulstice 2025 was a beautiful reminder of the strength we find in the community. Together, we can build resilience, foster connection, and create spaces where every voice is valued. A huge thank you to our corporate partner RSM and all our community partners for making this event possible. Read more about our Winter Soulstice event here: https://lnkd.in/g9bq3ryt ??
