Creating an inclusive computing community
关于我们
The Iribe Initiative for Inclusion and Diversity in Computing (I4C) aims to create a vibrant, inclusive community of students, educators, and researchers coming together to increase the involvement—and success—of underrepresented populations interested in computing. We deliver on this mission by hosting a wide variety of current student programming including mentoring, tutoring, community events, and student support—as well as K-12 outreach.

Through Break Through Tech DC's micro-internship program, four University of Maryland students developed AI features to make Goodshuffle's client onboarding even smoother. They also found a friend and mentor in former Sprintern Abril Arias (B.S. '24, computer science). "We would always go to [Abril] first if we ran into an error or if there was something we didn’t know," said sophomore computer science major Helena Tesfaye. "She also talked with us about her time at UMD, her other internships and how she came to Goodshuffle full-time." #CareerDevelopment #Microinternship #ClientOnboarding #ArtificialIntelligence #Mentorship #UMD Department of Computer Science, UMD

Four UMD students developed AI features to make Goodshuffle's client onboarding even smoother—a project that former Sprintern Abril Arias (B.S. '24, computer science) will bring to fruition. “It was a very full-circle moment," Abril said. "I’m happy to move their work forward over the next few months and implement these features that they worked so hard to create." I am so excited to announce that I have accepted a full-time offer to work as a Technology Consultant in the Cybersecurity practice with EY. I am so extremely grateful for this opportunity and this would not have been possible without the incredible support system that has helped me along the way. First and foremost, I want to thank Joshua Blair, Andrea Morales, and my incredible, loving parents for always believing in me and for being the backbone in my life. I also want to thank Verónica Sánchez, Vivica Joines M.Ed, and everyone involved in the Iribe Initiative for Inclusion and Diversity in Computing at the University of Maryland for all of your help with the RESET Project, career support, and the community building that you have provided me with. A big thank you to my mentor, Sofia Nicholson, for sharing all of your guidance and wisdom from your experience as a Latina in cyber. You've helped me tremendously with pivoting into the industry and I am so grateful for all your help. Lastly, I want to thank the EY recruiters, Lolita Hill and Lynn Mentch, for your support and guidance throughout this process and ensuring everything operated smoothly. This December, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the Techsgiving Summit 2024 at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, DC! A huge thank you to the Iribe Initiative for Inclusion and Diversity in Computing (I4C), University of Maryland, College Park for sponsoring my attendance through a conference scholarship. The event provided valuable insights, opportunities to network with industry professionals, and engagement with a vibrant tech community. I truly appreciate I4C's commitment to fostering opportunities for students in tech! Sharing slides from some of the sessions I attended featuring phenomenal speakers: 1.Behind the Scenes of Interoperability of The Consumer Experience: A Journey through AI, UX Design Strategy, + Collaboration – Emmanuel Ademuwagun (Engineering Manager, Meta), Osa Omokaro, Ph.D. (UX Research + Strategy Lead, Google) 2.Binge-Worthy: Building a UX Portfolio That Keeps Them Watching – Taiwo Ade(UX Researcher, Etsy) 3.Product Visioning, Product Strategy: Outputs vs. Outcomes – Adebowale Asaya, CPSM, PMP Asaya (Sr. Product Lead, Amazon) 4.Transform Your Tech Idea into a Market-Ready Product in 90 Days – CherRaye Glenn-Flowers Flowers (Founder/CEO, Brownce) A game-changer and one of my biggest takeaways was Adebowale Asaya’s talk on Product Visioning, Versioning, and Venturing. I was inspired by how a strong product vision isn't just aspirational-it’s a practical decision-making tool that aligns teams, inspires innovation, and keeps PMs focused on real customer needs. The “Versioning, Visioning, and Venturing” framework was a powerful tool to categorize daily work we do as PMs and foster intentional innovation. Putting theory into action, we also had the chance to explore Amazon Web Services (AWS) no-code applications (#PartyRock), where we simulated the visioning process using real user insights and tested roadmap decisions against an existing product vision - a great hands-on experience that truly reshaped my perspective on strategic product development! It was also great connecting with fellow professionals in the UI/UX field, including Jonathan Gallo, and exchanging ideas with such passionate individuals shaping the future of design. I'm grateful for the knowledge gained and connections made during this summit. Looking forward to applying these insights and continuing the journey of learning and growth in the tech industry-let’s continue the conversation! #Techsgiving2024 #ProductStrategy #ProductVision #AI #UXDesign #InclusionInTech #Innovation #AWS #PM #Networking
